Motivation Monday: Gratitude

Good morning and happy Motivation Monday.  I encourage you to start your day off today with writing a list or taking a few minutes to think about all the things you are grateful for today.  Everyone has ups and downs and perhaps your list is not huge today, but you will have days that it will be.

Whenever I take the time to do this I always find that my list is bigger than I initially think it will be.  There's something about starting my day off this way that gets me motivated.  When you focus on the positive you no doubt put positive energy out into the universe.

There's no doubt that books like The Secret are a success.  We see it time and time again that successful people say they focus on the solution and not the problem, get back up when they fall, etc.  Those people are looking at the positive in every situation.  That doesn't mean it's easy and every day is perfect.  It's a choice.

Jean Baptiste Massieu said,"Gratitude is the memory of the heart".  And lately I have found this to be very true.  In life there are so many things we have no control over.  But we can choose how we learn from our life experiences.  Everything teaches us something.  The question is, will you let what happens in life destroy you or will you use it to move you forward and become the person you want to be? I choose the latter.  The quote reminds you to focus on the pieces of a situation that truly moved you and helped make you the person you are today.

I choose to think about my experiences and the positive ways they have impacted my life.  Now, that doesn't mean everything has been perfect or always worked out the way I wanted it to, because it hasn't.  Some days it takes work to remind myself of the certain things that I should be grateful for.  Really though, I wouldn't want it any other way.  I'd rather be grateful for the lessons I've learned than sit around and be mad about it.  The choice is really our own and I choose to focus on the positive.

Try writing or thinking about your list every day this week and see how you feel at the end.  I hope you'll find it starts your day off in the best way possible like it has for me.
