A few weeks ago I was invited to try out a SURFSET Fitness class. I'm excited to give you my review and experience on it because I think it could be just the class you're looking for to get you in the mood and shape for summer. I was thrilled because the first time I heard about this fitness class was while watching the show on ABC, Shark Tank. One of the sharks, Mark Cuban, ended up investing in the company and they were able to expand across the country.
The class is based on the techniques used during surfing. During the class you are actually given a “surf board” attached to a grounding device. The surf board moves side to side as if you were actually in the water. Therefore, you are forced to keep yourself stable by engaging your core and every single muscle you imagine.
I had a blast during this workout. We started off by completing exercises to get us used to the board. We did a lot of squats and then even incorporated weights into our exercises. The class consisted of two cardio sections that were designed to amp up our endurance and work our core. Donell and I were dripping with sweat and we had only completed half of our SurfSet Fitness class.
I was loving it! The instructor even incorporated moves that you would actually be doing in the water if you were surfing. Some of the exercises even reminded me of yoga. At the end of the class we killed it with some abs and then pretended we were actually surfing. We paddled out on top of our board, pushed ourselves up to stand, got in our surf position and rode the wave.
When the class was done I felt like I had tried something new, fun and it kicked my butt. It was perfect as I wanted to get an intense workout in that day. The next day I came into the gym and I was gimping. All my colleagues found it amusing and laughing asked what was wrong with me? My glutes were so sore from the surf class! It was a great feeling to know I put 100% into my workout the day before!
If you get the chance to try a SURFSET Fitness class I highly recommend it. It breaks up the monotony in your workout routine, gets your heart rate up and makes you excited about summer. For info on a class in Chicago, contact Kimberly Trefelek of Moirai Health and Fitness.
