Girls on the Run is having their 11th annual gala this Friday November 19th.  The event is being held at the famous Chicago Drake Hotel from 8-midnight.  This gala raises money for the nearly 300 programs it has in existence, as well as future ones. Over 3800 girls are being helped by these programs.  "GOTRC, Girls on the Run, is a non-profit organization that runs after-school programs for 3rd-8th grade girls.  The program uses a 12-week lesson plan which employs running as a vehicle to teach girls about healthy habits and behaviors, giving them the skills to address the social, mental and emotional challenges particular to girls.  The program culminates in a 5K event, which gives the girls a tangible sense of achievement as well as the framework for setting and achieving life goals, athletic or otherwise".

I'm very excited to attend this special event.  One of our other ChicagoNow bloggers will be in attendance as well, Lauren Kaminsky of Outside the Girl Box.  What a great way to promote health and empowerment to young women.  There will be aucitions, raffles, food, drinks and live music.  I encourage everyone to check out the organization and see if you can attend.   Go to http://www.gotrchicago.org/gala/ to purchase your tickets.  I encourage everyone to see how they can combine fitness and helping others.  This would be a great night on the town and a great way to help build healthier future generations.

Have a fun and fit day, Chicago.
