Spinning For A Cause

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of attending the Cycle for Survival event held at the Equinox gym in the loop.  This was the first year the event has been held in Chicago and I was looking forward to seeing what the event would be like.

Jennifer Goodman Linn is the founder of Cycle for Survival.  Jennifer has battled a rare soft tissue cancer, MFH sarcoma, 5 times!  During all of her treatments she continued to exercise and spin at her Equinox gym in New York.  In 2007 she created Cycle for Survival.  An event to raise money for the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, which focuses on cancer education, treatment and research.  Thousands have joined in the fight to create teams that raise money and cycle for someone they love.
Jennifer's goal has been to raise money for rare cancers.  To give all those facing any type of cancer a better chance of survival.  Did you know that more than half of all cancers are rare?Because they are so rare these cancers receive less funding than other types.  Jennifer has done an amazing job of raising money for rare cancers.  So far the organization has raised over 4 million dollars since 2007.  This last year, raising 2.2 million.  It is because of great people that these amounts are being reached.
This year was the first year Jennifer decided to hold a cycling event in Chicago.  From the looks of it, the event was a huge success!  The entire event was so inspirational.  From the founders amazing story and her determination, to the individuals sweating their butts off to help others.  What an amazing gathering of people.
