Our first real snow has finally hit our great city of Chicago. I have found that some people truly love the snow and how beautiful it makes this city looks. And some...cannot stand the cold wet snow whatsoever! I am in love with the snow. I love the way it looks. And if I'm going to have to deal with the frigid cold I'd at least like our city to look like a winter wonderland.
If you have lived in Chicago all your life you know the winters are brutal. You explain to the new residents here the importance of a huge winter jacket, great boots and scarves to wrap your entire face in. haha. Even though we know our winters are bad, the memory of our previous winter usually fades and we forget just exactly how brutal it actually was.
Now yesterday evening was really just a small taste of what our winter will undoubtedly bring us. However, I had forgotten how difficult it was to get anywhere in this city when it snows! I faithfully met Donell at Hi-Fi yesterday to get my work out in before the weather hit. But of course, as soon as I leave, the snow was pouring down. I had 3 bags on me that I had to trek home with, gym shoes on and no winter hat.
I began walking outside and thought this is not so bad...til I had made it a few blocks.
Then my bags began to get heavier, the paper bag started to rip, my
hair was wet, snow was pelting me in the eyes and the bottom of my
pants began to get longer. The further I got in my journey, the more
determined I was to make it home without getting in a cab. I decided
to stop at the grocery store and add another bag to my trek. Almost
there now, I walked faster and faster hoping the hole in the paper bag
did not reach the point of spilling its contents all over the wet
sidewalk. Finally, with my hair drenched, my make up smeared (it
happens haha) I made it home without the bag ripping. I wanted to drop
everything and lay on the ground in the middle of my lobby.
I made it though and that was the important part. I was determined not
to let this weather deter me from my route. It took me longer than
normal to get home, but I still walked and gave my body some extra
exercise. I know how tempting it is to hop in a cab (which sometimes
just has to be done) and nix the things you may normally do to give
your body exercise. But as much as you can don't let the weather ruin
your daily work-outs. Whether it be not wanting to get out of bed to
hit that early morning class because its cold, or looking outside and
deciding to stay in and watch movies. Only do these things every once
in a while haha.
Make it a challenge for yourself to face the winter weather. :)
Have a fun and fit day, Chicago.

Thanks Daniel! Continue to have fun and enjoy this winter!
I love the snow too! But I usually go for a jog every day. That's when the snow becomes a problem- the sidewalks are too slippery! I've yet to find a solution.
The sidewalks do get very nasty when we have snow. Number one thing is safety. So if its too wet out its better to run inside on a tread. I don't know that there really is a way to get around the slippery cement. haha. If you ever find a solution let me know :) Have a great day!
Awesome post. Went for a runt his morning! Brrrrrr!
Thanks! Good job still getting your work-out in. Stay safe and warm!!!
