Kanye West: Anatomy of a video
Kanye West definitely knows the whole world is watching. The rapper released his latest video, "All of the Lights," on Friday, and it's racking up the YouTube views, with more than 3 million as of Monday night. But what makes a Kanye music video stand out from the pack? RedEye took a closer look at Mr. West's recent work to dissect what makes him a video star.
Lee DeWyze rocks the vote at Rockit
"American Idol" champ Lee DeWyze might be from Mount Prospect, but he still wants Millennials within the city limits to vote for mayor. DeWyze performed a set at Rockit Bar & Grill in River North during a Rock the Vote event Thursday night. The Idol also snapped pics with mayoral candidate Gery Chico, who was in attendance, and Rockit owner Billy Dec.
RedEye was on the scene to capture a couple of DeWyze's songs--"Beautiful Like You" and a cover of Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody."

7 reasons to ignore the political opinions of Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber, in a controversial new Rolling Stone interview, says he's anti-abortion and jokes that the U.S. health care system is "evil." Also, he's not sure if he's a Democrat or Republican, "but whatever they have in Korea, that's bad."
Now the Internet's in an uproar about whether Justin harbors deep anti-American sentiment or whether he's just a kid. Our vote? Just a kid. Hello, this is the 16-year-old whose best-known song goes, "I was like, baby, baby, baby, oh!" And the boy whose diehard fans, after he lost the Best New Artist Grammy, thought it would be hilarious to change the real winner's middle name to "Quesadilla" on Wikipedia. (Burn.) Here are some other reminders why the political beliefs of Justin Bieber should not carry much weight.

Sports Illustrated model behavior
A bodacious bod, beautiful hair and those deep eyes you could swim in for days. No, we're not talking about the Bieber. We're talking about Irina Shayk, the newly minted cover girl of this year's Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. For now, she's got the media spotlight and a giant Manhattan billboard--not to mention tons of drooling men wanting her to Shayk it like a Polaroid picture. But what comes next? Let's take a look at the past five SI cover models and find out what they've been up to.
Westminster dogs: Stars' best friends
The Oscars are right around the corner, but another event involving plenty of grooming and prancing took place this week. The 135th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show crowned Hickory, a Scottish Deerhound, as the winner Tuesday night in New York. With all these pooches wandering around, RedEye couldn't help but wonder which show dogs our favorite celebrities should take home. Here are a few ideas.

Coming soon to movie theaters: the cast of 'How I Met Your Mother'
They might not be in a hurry to reveal who the mother is on "How I Met Your Mother," but maybe that's because Ted, Robin and the rest of the gang have so much else going on right now. RedEye checked in to see who's crazy-busy and who's cooling their heels in 2011.
Grammy fashion focus
RedEye's picks and pans from the Grammy Awards. And for even more, check out the best and worst from Curt Wagner on Show Patrol.

Charlize Theron vs. Julia Roberts: Who's the evilest of them all?
Mirror, mirror, on the wall ... wait a second, there's more than one evil queen here! Both Julia Roberts and Charlize Theron have been confirmed in the role of Snow White's stepmother in separate projects, the Dallas Morning News reports, while a third movie starring Natalie Portman as the princess has yet to crown its queen. While we're sure both Roberts and Theron are qualified, it's time for an old-fashioned RedEye faceoff to see who leaves us quivering in our boots--or tiaras.
'Jersey Shore' dream date?
Hold on to your hearts, ladies and gentlemen. Ronnie Ortiz-Magro from "Jersey Shore" is hitting the Chicago scene Friday at Manor, which also happens to be hosting a charity date auction the same night. We're pretty sure he's not going to be up for sale--after all, what would Sammi say? With Valentine's Day just around the bend, RedEye took a look at what makes our "Jersey Shore" sweethearts a major catch--or totally undateable--and we imagine what their dream dates might be. mtv photos
Viva los music videos! Guess who's back
Dang, where's "TRL" when you need it? Three V.I.V.s--very important videos--will debut in the next few weeks, and it's all we can do to stop ourselves from calling up Carson Daly and begging him to revive his 2000-era MTV show. Seriously, we've got Lady Gaga, we've got Weezy and we've even got Britney-freakin'-Spears premiering big-budget music videos. You can't blame us for thinking this is a flashback to the days when we used to rush home from school to see if Backstreet Boys would hold off Slim Shady's latest video for the No. 1 spot on "TRL." (Or, uh, maybe that was just us.) Anyway, if all these music video-related TV specials and sneak peeks signal a renewal of the industry, bring it on. Somewhere, Jesse Camp is ready for his comeback.
Lea Michele did it again...
Is Lea Michele learning some tricks from her "Glee" character, or is it vice versa? On the show, Rachel Berry makes questionable life choices, such as falling for her teacher and raising hell during a celibacy club meeting. In real life, Michele is stirring up just as much controversy--most recently with another racy magazine cover. Maybe this is just another "oops" moment for Michele, but then again, maybe she's keeping the scandal machine spinning. Let's take a closer look.
Is 2011 the year of the Muppet?
By Ariel Alexovich
RedEye
Another week, another leak about "The Muppets." The highly anticipated film spearheaded by Jason Segel isn't due out
till Nov. 23, but plot details already are surfacing, whipping Gen
Y-ers who grew up on "Muppet Babies" into an Animal-like hysteria. Miss
Piggy is a Vogue editor! Emily Blunt has a cameo! Gonzo is a successful
plumber! This rabid excitement is accentuated by all the non-movie
related press those rascally puppets have gotten lately. Seriously,
they have a better publicist than even Natalie Portman. Here's a look
at all the ways Kermit and his plush friends are living the plush life.
Call it a comeback!
Sometimes when stars disappear from the limelight, we assume they're gone for good. Or dead. For example, we were amazed when Calista Flockhart showed up on "Brothers and Sisters" (almost as amazed as when we found out she's dating Harrison Ford). A few celebs recently returned to the pop culture radar with new projects that could bring them back to the A-list. Let's check out their potential.
Celeb 101: The most awesome college courses
James Franco has a new credit to add to his resume--professor. Well, sort of. The multi-professioned star is joining forces with Columbia College Hollywood to create a course titled "Master Class: Editing James Franco ... with James Franco" in which students will edit Franco-provided footage into 30-minute documentaries. (In related news, Franco's head has now ballooned to a point where hats no longer fit him.) Franco certainly isn't the first object of celebrity higher learning. RedEye rounded up some other opportunities to obsess over the famous--for college credit.
The 16 poses of Lea Michele
What did "Glee's" Lea Michele do at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night? A little posing, a little hair fluffing--and a lot more posing. Here's Lea's night in red carpet poses.
50 Cent and Kanye's new album brawl?
We've seen this one before. This week, Kanye West announced via Twitter he'll release yet another album this summer AND 50 Cent told MTV his new record will drop around that time. Flash back to 2007, when both artists released albums on Sept. 11. After vowing to quit the biz if 'Ye outsold him, Fiddy was blown out of the water. In light of this potential rematch, RedEye jumped in our hip-hop time machine to see how both these rappers' careers have fared since album-gate.
Introducing the other Olsen
By Ariel Alexovich
RedEye
Those eyes! That round face! That penchant for scarves and oversized handbags! Elizabeth Olsen may not (yet) have the multimillion-dollar empire of her big sisters, Mary-Kate and Ashley, but she's got their boho-chic look down pat. And lucky for Lizzie, 21, she might even be a better actress.
Keep it classy, guys
Sometimes they buy ridiculous stuff. Sometimes they get arrested. And sometimes they just open their mouths. Money can get celebs a lot of things, but class isn't always one of them. RedEye rounded up some recent questionable celeb incidents to see who racked up the biggest forehead-slapping moment.
Time for a Jennifer Aniston makeover!
Jennifer Aniston has broken her silence. After years of suffering through excruciating fame due partially to her "Rachel" hairstyle on "Friends," the actress told Allure magazine that the coif was "the ugliest haircut I've ever seen." Oh, really? We bet we can do worse. RedEye's salon experts combed through some celeb cuts to find hair that looks even LESS awesome on Jen.
Gloves are off for celeb fights
There's no place like an awards show for ... a catfight? Julianne Hough (left) and Christina Aguilera had a tiff last week at a pre-Golden Globes party, eonline.com reports, though nobody would go on record about the alleged incident. The horror! Well, if celebs are going to keep fighting, RedEye is going to step into the ring to pick the winners.
Casting call: Superman
Anybody looking forward to seeing Jon Hamm in spandex is about to be seriously disappointed. The "Man Men" star, 39, told MTV he thinks the role of Superman in the upcoming reboot is "a young man's game. I think I've been aged out of that one by now." While we at RedEye don't think Hamm's too old to kick butt, we've rounded up some "young men" who might want a try at the tights.
These franchises are so over
"Fast Five," the latest installment in the "Fast and the Furious" juggernaut, hasn't even hit the racetrack, but it won't be the franchise's last go-'round. Media blog collider.com talked to "Fast" producer Neal Moritz, who says he and Vin Diesel are "starting to get serious" about a sixth movie. Yuck. Can we put the brakes on this situation? RedEye found some other movies that went on sequel overload.
That's nasty--MTV's 'Skins' is on the way
Drinking and drugs and underwear, oh my! MTV has released a teaser for its adaptation of "Skins" (left), and while it's not as wild as the British original, we're sure plenty of parents will be rushing to cover their kids' eyes when the show kicks off at 9 p.m. Monday. This got RedEye nostalgic for other tawdry teen TV characters--and their squeaky-clean counterparts. Here are our faves.
Is Katy Perry the mother on 'HIMYM'?
"How I Met Your Mother" fans gasped (and shuddered a little) when CBS announced Thursday that Katy Perry will guest-star as main man Ted's love interest in an upcoming episode.
Book 'em! Celebs who could be writers
Snooki just did it. Jenna Jameson did it last year. Heck, even Tina Fey's going to do it. Whether they're known for their literary skills or other ... er ... assets, these stars all put pen to paper (or ate chocolate bon-bons while someone else put pen to paper) and got themselves published. (In case you're curious, Tina's book, "Bossypants," is out April 5, according to amazon.com.) Becoming an author can't be that hard, right? Here are a few more celebs RedEye hopes to see in hardcover ASAP.
They tried to make them go to rehab...
Hung over Chicagoans apparently aren't the only ones who need to detox after New Year's. David Arquette has entered rehab for alcohol treatment after a rough 2010 that included in his separation from Courteney Cox, his reps confirmed to people.com. Let's hope Arquette will find success like these other stars--or even more than some of them.
SOS! Celebs have lost their helpers!
Prince William and Kate Middleton will drive their own royal coach, thank you very much. Well, that's according to Britain's Daily Telegraph, which cites "sources" who say the couple will do their own shopping, cooking and cleaning after they get hitched April 29. (A royal scrubbing the toilet? We'll believe it when an aide writes a tell-all in a few years.) While living a life without servants is old hat for us commoners, it got RedEye wondering how celebs would cope without their armies of "help." Here's how we think some celebs would cope.
It's potty time for Jane Lynch
Jane Lynch already rules the roost at McKinley High School on "Glee." Now she'll decide who rules the ... er ... toilet at the public Charmin Restrooms in New York. Jane is set to judge the TP company's "King or Queen of the Throne" competition Wednesday, consisting of toilet paper trivia and physical challenges. While the winner takes home $50,000, according to ew.com, Lynch just might take home the honor of craziest day in New York. RedEye plotted out her fake itinerary, Ferris Bueller-style, to see where she might be headed.
2011 shaping up to be big for Natalie Portman
It's good to be Natalie Portman.
Fresh off an Oscar-worthy performance in "Black Swan," Portman is engaged to smokin'-hot choreographer Benjamin Millepied, whom she met on the set of "Black Swan," and expecting her first child, people.com confirmed Monday.
Though Portman's reps did not reveal a baby due date or wedding date, 2011 already had the makings of a fantastic year for the actress. Let's take a look at what's on the agenda.
