What's it Worth: Is All that Glitters Really Gold?

The success of our Elvis memorabilia auction is testament to the resilience avid collectors can have to our economic climate.

One of our readers has taken note, and would like to know how much his glitzy glove might accumulate at auction. He writes, "I have a blue with white stars Michael Jackson glove given to me by him. How do I auction it and what could it be worth?"

This glove appears similar to the "Fantasy Glove" series created for Michael Jackson by Bill Whitten in 1984. This group is comprised of eight custom-designed black spandex, right-hand gloves. Each is completely covered in Swarovski loch rosen crystals, with further decoration in white rhinestones.

In 1984, Whitten told People Magazine that each glove used 1,200 Austrian crystals. How many hours of labor did this embellishment entail? A mere 40 hours per glove by one dexterous seamstress!

If accompanied by documentation proving the glove's provenance, then it would be estimated between $10,000-12,000 at auction.
