What's It Worth? by Leslie Hindman

A Surprise from a Dumpster in Wheaton

ed-rotini.jpg

Sometimes it makes sense to trust your instincts. A couple from Wheaton noticed this painting in a dumpster near their home and were intrigued enough to pull it out.

As far as they knew, it wasn't worth the canvas it was painted on, but they brought it in for an expert's opinion.

It ended up selling for $1,200 and, of course, they were delighted.

It's by Ferruccio Rontini, an early 20th Century Italian painter who is not particularly well known. His paintings appear to be influenced predominantly by French art of the late 19th century, and depict scenes of peasant life almost exclusively. Born in 1893, he painted these scenes of daily life until his death in 1964.

If you have a find from your attic, a garage sale, or even the trash, send a photo and description to What's It Worth, and we'll have a look!
