Response from Streets and Sanitation #2
Here we go again. I have been waiting for the response from the Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation about a second complaint we published here a few weeks ago. After I exposed the way the workers of this Department are breaking traffic laws by parking the trucks pretty much everywhere they want, another worker parked his truck obstructing traffic. Check previous post and pictures HERE. This is the email I received from the spokesperson of the Department.
"I'm writing in response to your recent blog item. What I said the first time around (and it wasn't blah, blah) still holds true. We always take complaints about our workers seriously and we do follow up on them. In both of the cases that you pointed out we let those workers know that they needed to be more considerate of the public and that they should avoid obstructing the public way while doing their jobs. And they couldn't argue with us because you supplied the evidence that we used to illustrate these points.
The worker that you featured in your second posting normally drives a truck but on the day in question was using another vehicle for a temporary assignment to collect the temporary signs that had been posted in the area. Even though he was new to that assignment and the vehicle, his Deputy Commissioner told him that he should not leave any vehicle in the middle of a driving lane if an open space or opening closer to the curb is available nearby. However it should also be noted in the workers defense that the photograph that you posted shows him doing exactly what we he had been assigned to do... Walking the immediate area and collecting the temporary signs.
So informing us about problems with our workers does have impact and we encourage you to keep doing what you're doing. Thank you once again.
Sincerely
Matt Smith
Chief Spokesperson
Chicago Department of Streets & San"
Just a note: This is an opportunity for keeping them honest. Please, send your pictures and cases to MeChicanoInc@Gmail.com or just publish them here.
Sincerely
Vicente Serrano

We will resolve our traffic problems as members of this comunity until the Chicago Department of Streets & Sanitation stops justifying the abuses from their co-workers.
