A few days ago I posted pictures of a truck from the Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation parked illegally. I called for these workers to be held under the same rules as any other citizen. I even got an email from the spokesperson of the Department, Matt Smith, saying that he was sorry about this situation and he was going to address the issue and blah, blah, blah...
I insist, there are people above the law.
Well, guess what? Nothing has changed! This is another truck from the same department parked illegally on Grand between Columbus/Fairbanks and Saint Clair. I took the pictures yesterday around 6:40PM.
When I say that there are some people above the law is because I truly believe it. Here is another picture of a police car passing by and not asking the city worker to move the truck. Well, this officer did not even stop.
This is a behavior crated for the lack of enforcement and common sense. On the other side of the street, right in front of the truck there was more than enough space to park. He/she did not do it because he/she is used to park wherever he/she wants, nobody would say anything to him/her.
I wanted to bring this issue up to the city worker but after waiting around 10 minutes I decided to leave. I was not sure if he was having dinner or chatting with his friends and I did not want to interrupt. I was with friends and hungry myself.
I think we should expect another email from Mr. Smith.

Lots of people who work for the government do this. Where I live there is a guy that works for the state or the county or something--he has a plate that starts with an M. He parks in tow zones, in front of Fire Hydrants, you name it. I would guess that the police are instructed not to mess with official vehicles. But this guy lives here! He's not on official business. He just gets free parking wherever and whenever he feels like it.
