I had the pleasure to have on Sin Censura con Vicente Serrano, Fernando Diaz and Teresa Puente. We are the three Latinos part of this effort launched online by the Chicago Tribune.
I received the information a few minutes ago: The U.S Forest Service identifies eating tortillas, drinking Tecate beer, listening to Spanish music and even speaking Spanish as warning signs of possible drug trafficking.
Give me a break!!! In Chicago money talks, no question about it. Now I am just wondering how much a "paisa" would have to pay to pull the same trick Oprah is pulling on Michigan Avenue. I'm pretty sure that not even with a million bucks we will ever see a "Padre Alberto", "Laura en America" or "Aqui y Ahora" on Michigan Avenue.
Some months ago, I gave Senator William Delgado a copy of the film "A Forgotten Injustice" I directed and produced with a group of friends. He watched the film with his wife (That's what he told me) and inspired him to immediately moved the pieces and introduce a bill in the Illinois' Legislature. "A Forgotten Injustice" it's the first and only documentary about the illegal and unconstitutional deportation of almost 2 million people, the vast majority of them U.S citizens of Mexican descent. My Grandmother was one of them.
I hope everyone is well. I have been receiving interesting pictures from some of you after we exposed here how city workers were breaking traffic laws. Here are a couple of those pictures, now of the police officers that believe that they are above the law they are supposed to make us respect. Feel free to leave your comment.
Last night I went to an event hosted by a group of Mexicans living abroad to elect their queen in the Midwest. "Los Jalisciences" celebrated their gala and it was nice to see how many families gathered to elect the woman who is going to represent them in public events. I was invited as a judge but there was something NOT even related to the beauty pageant that struck me when I was walking out of the Performing Arts Center of Triton College in River Grove:
In Spanish (at least in my beautiful Sonora, Mexico) we say that someone is a "viejo lobo de mar" when that person is not a rookie. Roberto Maldonado's case is the perfect opportunity to use it. The only new thing is the tittle. He has been appointed by Mayor Richard Daley as the new 26th Ward alderman and Maldonado is replacing Billy Ocasio who is now working for Governor Pat Quinn.
Here we go again. I have been waiting for the response from the Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation about a second complaint we published here a few weeks ago. After I exposed the way the workers of this Department are breaking traffic laws by parking the trucks pretty much everywhere they want, another worker parked his truck obstructing traffic.
Check previous post and pictures HERE. This is the email I received from the spokesperson of the Department.
