Top Ten Reasons Why the Bears Should Trade for Terrell Owens

user-pic

Could Terrell Owens become a Chicago Bear in the very near future?

If you believe the rumors that were floating around yesterday thanks in large part to this report from ESPN, the Bears could be a perfect fit for Owens should the Bills decided to trade their high priced wideout. While the baggage that comes along with a guy like Owens cannot be denied, is there a chance his talents could make it worth the risk?

Maybe this will help you decide. (For even more T.O to the Bears coverage, click here.)

NFL Pro Bowl - AFC-NFC Practice

10. He's Good

Much has been made of the decline in T.O.'s production, but let's face it. Even on his worst day, Owens looks like Jerry Rice compared to the rest of our receivers.

9. Fresh Material

Having T.O. come to Chicago would be like Christmas coming early to both papers in the city. He's the gift that keeps on giving.

8. Something to Prove

A motivated T.O. is the only way this thing would work. He'd be coming from a team that made him look like a washed up wideout that wasn't worth the trouble. Suit him up in Bears blue and you'd get a guy that's hopefully ready to kill himself to prove otherwise.

7. Cutler's Go To

The second T.O. steps off the plane he'd instantly become Cutler's primary option in the passing game. His combination of size and speed is a rare commodity in the NFL, even rarer for this franchise.

6. Better Blocker

One of the most underrated aspects of being a premier receiver in the NFL is a player's ability to block. Considering the majority of cornerbacks are a bit wirey and built for speed, Owens muscle mass allows him to toss them around like ragdolls.

5. Make Hester Better

All along we've known that Devin Hester is nowhere near capable of being a number one receiver in an offense. But I think we can all agree that with a talent like Owens lining up to him on the other side of the field would increase his ability to break free for big gains exponentially.

4. Attitude

Right now this Bears team is severely lacking in attitude for more than few reasons. They say that the players typically take on the persona of their coach, meaning the Bears show about as much emotion as your mouse. With Owens in the fold, the Bears would have their loudest personality since the Super Bowl Shufflin crew.

3. Checks and Balances

Considering that Tony Romo looks about as commanding as his ex-girlfriend Jessica Simpson inside the huddle, it's no surprise T.O. went unchecked down in Big D.

Chicago's punky QB reincarnate Jay Cutler is just brash enough to wield control over a guy like Owens and already did a fine job harnessing the potential of Brandon Marshall during his days in Denver.

2. Explosive Offense

Watching the Bears drop 48 points on the Lions last week was just a glimpse of what it would be like to have an explosive offense call the Windy City home. Granted, it was against a defense that gives up a league high 32.4 ppg and a team that we absolutely own.

But with an arsenal consisting of T.O, Matt Forte, Greg Olsen, Jay Cutler and Devin Hester, this kind of offensive output could become the norm and not an anomaly.

1. Go for Broke

By acquiring for Jay Cutler, Jerry Angelo showed a willingness to win now that hasn't been seen in this city in a very long time. Trading for T.O. would certainly be swinging for the fences, but then again, Angelo could end up looking like Casey with egg all over his face.

Remember, with great risks, comes great rewards.

I'd love it. But after seeing what the Chicago Media did to another controversial athlete (Milton Bradley), I have a feeling Owens would step off the plane to be met by an angry mob with pitchforks. Certainly a lot of the issues with Milton Bradley were problems he caused for himself, but the media went after Bradley pretty hard. For whatever reason some fans/writers/espn have problems looking past a guy's personality and seeing the production on the field. But man would I love to have Owens for a 1 year deal.

Milton Bradley was NOT hated my the Chicago media before he came to the Cubs. Sure they were skeptical due to his troubled past, but everyone here gave him a chance to bury his past. Bradley chose to blame everyone else for his bad play on the North Side, and media in a big market sports city will not allow that. Bradley's only value to Chicago is of a cautionary tale. It happened to the Cubs this summer, Jerry Angelo please dont let it happen to DA BEARS!!!!!

Paul Sullivan basically said in spring training how he didn't like Bradley. Almost all of Sullivan's coverage on Bradley was negative. From day 1 Sullivan either misquoted or exaggerated Bradley's bad actions. Don't tell me there weren't fans and other sports writers who were just waiting for Bradley to do something wrong so they could yell "Gotcha!" and try and ride the guy out of town. I'll admit Bradley has his problems, but these problems were definitely compounded by a media that spent quite a bit of time trying to bait him at every turn. And Bradley took the bait. So blame goes to both sides. The Cubs had a down year, and people wanted a player to blame. So they blamed Bradley.

Bradley didn't play that bad this year. His numbers ended up being about average (OPS+ of 101). It was his worst year in quite awhile, so odds are he should be better next year. His numbers since the all-star break were actually quite good.

Bradley blamed umpires for giving him a smaller strike zone. Don't tell me umpires don't take a hitter/pitcher into consideration sometimes when they make calls. Greg Maddux and Barry Bonds get way more calls because they are Greg Maddux and Barry Bonds. Bradley was struggling at the plate, and didn't like the calls he was getting. So he complained about it. Thats kinda what he does. He speaks his mind. I don't think he's the first player ever to disagree with umpires.

Later in the season, Bradley said he didn't like being booed. He didn't like how fans at home booed him all the time. He even heard (or claimed to have heard) so racial taunts from the crowd. Racial taunts is something that other players for the Cubs have complained about before, so it's not like Bradley is pulling this stuff out of thin air.

So basically, Bradley is a vocal guy who speaks his mind too much. For some reason when Ozzie Guillen does this, people love it. Why the double standard with Bradley? He answers the questions he's asked. If you don't like his answers, then don't listen to them. D-Lee already said this season that at the plate, issues with Bradley are not a distraction. I think when some players on a team blame someone else on the team for their down season that it's the lamest excuse ever.

At the end of the day, I think players play. Owens would give the bears a chance to have a big-play WR. All that other nonsense about chemistry is a complete joke.

Bradley was awful, he dug his own grave and you need to give it up.

Millertime, the fans aren't part of the media. You say the media had it out for him, then talk about how the fans and also the umps had it out for him. Sounds a little paranoid.

Bradley sucked, the whole team sucked, but when you are the free-agent savior, the lefty bat that was the final piece that Lou asked for, and you come here and shit your pants, you gotta expect the criticism. Even Lou himself was at odds with Bradely. How is it that everyone found themselves at odds with this guy? Because of the media. Wow, we'd love to have that kind of power, but let's join the real world, shall we.

T.O. would be perfect for the Bears. If you're going all out for the Super Bowl, you gotta make this move.

Millertime's brief yet torrid emotional affair with Milton Bradley left his protruding heart wanting more. Oh, and please don't try rationalizing to a Cub fan as it never, ever works. Buy T.O now!
