Roe v. Wade Celebration Tonight

Sotheby's Host Choice Art 2006 Auction

Planned Parenthood Illinois hosts their  Roe v. Wade celebration tonight, and I'm lucky to say I'll be one of the attendees at the annual gathering.
Titled "The Future of Choice: Celebrating 37 Years of Roe v. Wade," the event honors Chicago Alderman Vi Daley (D-43) with PPIL's Richard J. Phelan Profile in Courage Award. Daley, as you may know, sponsored and passed the "bubble zone" within a 50-ft. radius of the entrance to any hospital, medical clinic or healthcare facility. The ordinance prevents pro-life protesters from harassing women seeking legal reproductive health care. (There are quite a few blogs by Planned Parenthood escorts--a volunteer force that exists solely to help transport patients safely across sidewalks into Planned Parenthoods and other health facilities past throngs of protesters--but my favorite is Everysaturdaymorning. It's a pretty good introduction to why the ordinance here in Chicago was necessary, and why it should be implemented elsewhere.)

Also making comments tonight will be Dr. Ruth Westheimer, as well as Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. It appears tickets are still available, so go here if you're interested in attending.

I'll report back tomorrow on the event and what was said about the future of choice. Stay tuned!
