New Faux Finish Paints for Your Home

Are you looking for more glamour in your home interior?  Do you want what's new in decor with an elegant splash? Is your room painted a great color but needs more "wow"? If you answer "yes", then I found a new design finish for you.

Sherwin-Williams introduced a new collection of paints called Faux Impressions Specialty Finishes. Last week I attended a presentation of these finishes for designers at the Chicago Merchandise Mart. I was so excited by the possibilities of these paints that the next day I attended a workshop for painters with a demonstration of the product application techniques. The four collections are: Metallic Impressions, Quartz Stone Impressions, Old World Impressions and Artesian Impressions.

These are not like the faux finishes of the past. Think of this as liquid wall covering. The effect is tone-on-tone color, shine and matte finish, smooth or brushed and multi-layer texture. The look is luxury, sophistication, richness and glamour. The idea is to create fashionable, classic interiors with drama.

Remember that sometimes a little glitz goes a long way and you don't always need to cover all the surfaces of a space in the same effect to get the glam. Here are a few ideas to get your creativity started.

 -  Update the trend to paint three walls of a bedroom in one color and the fourth wall behind the headboard in an accent color. Instead, paint three walls of the master bedroom in a Sherwin-Williams jewel-tone color and then use the same color in the Quartz Stone Finish formula to paint the fourth wall behind the headboard. You'll have a surround of color with just enough textural interest.

 - Create a dining room of romance and glamour by painting all four walls in a bronze or platinum color paint. Then use that same color paint in the Metallic Finish formula to paint the ceiling.

 - The entry is the first impression of the home. Make it a statement. Cover all the walls with Venetian Plaster Finish in one of the new, warm brown tones or exotic pewter colors.

 - A powder room is the perfect place to create a surround with Fresco Finish for the look of European classic architecture.

Go to Sherwin-Williams or see the product display at a Sherwin-Williams store. The website provides step-by-step instructions for you or your painter. For further information contact the Sherwin-Williams faux painting expert Ed Mattingly at his blogspot.

Let me know if you give these a try and what your impression is.
