I'm a DePaul graduate student getting my MA in journalism. And a Miami University alumnae. I'm really excited to watch Blackhawks player Patrick Kane play for team USA!

Vancouver--during the 2010 Winter Olympic opening ceremony, the lighting of the torch--a historic and honorable moment, malfunctioned last night as one of the four torchbearers didn't come up all the way.  This blip seems to have set up a theme to the Olympics as we enter the events: Nothing seems to be going right.   VANOC, the Vancouver Olympic Committee announced this morning that todays events, men's downhill skiing, women's super combined downhill, and women's super combined slalom skiing have all been postponed.  Both events were scheduled in Whistler.  The men's skiing event is rescheduled for February 15th at 10:30am and the women's downhill event is rescheduled for February 14th at 10am and women's slalom will now be on February 14th at 1pm.

A spokesman for the U.S. Olympic Committee said that the events had been rescheduled because the runs were too slushy which can be potentially dangerous for athletes.

It appears that the International Olympic Committee is taking extra precautionary measures to ensure the safety of the athletes after Thursday's tragic death of Georgian luge athlete Nodar Kumaritashvili.
