Chicagoan Shani Davis contributed to America's medal count Wednesday with a gold in the 1,000m speedskating race. "I didn't wear my Sox hat today," he said.
Davis was among six Americans to medal in today's Olympic competition with his winning time of 1 min 8.94 seconds, becoming the first man to win back-to-back 1,000-metre Olympic speedskating gold medals."
"I am always trying to be really cool and calm," Davis said of his winning time in a press conference Wednesday, "but I was really peeping those times tonight."
Davis spoke to how these Games will help the perception of speedskating, and how the sport is going to grow because of how much attention there is on the Games in Vancouver.
"It has an instant effect," he said. "It was on primetime [so a lot of people were able to see it]."
There is also the allure of something unknown, he added. "it excites people to see something different on TV.
"I wouldn't change a thing about the Olympics so far. I've really been enjoying myself, this is probably the happiest I've ever been. I think it's very beautiful to see so many different people witnessing the winter Olympics at its finest."
