Christmas in March with an unsuspecting Logan Square man

If my phone rings hours before I'm supposed to wake up, whoever is on the other end better be having a baby, or warning me of an impending missile strike. They better not be calling to say they're outside of my house, with Santa Claus and Frosty the Snowman, hoping to interview me on live TV.

I think most of you would agree that's a reasonable request, no?

The moment we met Frank!

But for Frank X (I've done enough to invade his privacy without revealing his last name), it was the kind of opportunity he'd been waiting for his entire life. OK, maybe not his entire life . . . but it was something he always thought would be pretty cool . . . or at least, it was the kind of offense that wouldn't make him chase us from his property with a baseball bat.

In an inspired bit of insanity, my co-horts and I at the WGN Morning News thought we'd show up at Frank's home in Logan Square, and offer to help him take down his Christmas decorations.

It is March, after all.

None of us knew a thing about the man, other than we'd passed his house before. He had no idea we were coming; we had no idea if he was home.

Hence, the padlock on his gate.

But thanks to some crack investigative work, we got Frank "X's" phone number, and woke him out of a dead sleep.

And then we met a Logan Square legend.

Always enjoyed this mans decorations and appreciate his kind heart for providing some great eye candy during the holiday season. You video was really cuter and original.

Hey if Santa and Frosty are available for summer I'd love some help for my Old Irving Park Garden. I'm on year 6 of creating something nice for the neighborhood with some curb appeal. Working out in the yard is also a great way to meet the neighbors -and this neighborhood is awesome. (I have sitcom neighbors- the kind that show up at your door with an apple pie)
