One lesbian reason... to see "(500) Days of Summer"

There's actually a couple of Lesbian Reasons to see the new Zooey Deschanel/Joseph Gordon-Levitt film (500) Days of Summer, which opened this weekend at both Landmark Century Cinema (2828 N. Clark St.) and AMC River East (322 E. Illinois St.).

OK firstly, Zooey is easy on the eyes and also a friend of the gay ladies like Von Iva, the queer trio from San Francisco who were part of her fake band in Yes Man.

Secondly, Zooey's character, Summer, casually mentions that she dated a girl in college who was "fun" but didn't go anywhere. (LUG? Must be: She tells another character she's not a lesbian earlier on in the film, but does not follow it up with "I'm bisexual.")

Then there's the bit parts played by out lesbian actress Maile Flanagan (3Way) and Nicole Vicius, who played the cougar-loving flirty dyke in Itty Bitty Titty Committee. Both women make very small appearances, but appearances nonetheless.

Lastly, the movie is about love, coincidence and untouchable women who don't fall for you as hard as you fall for them. It's universal and has a great soundtrack, ranging from The Smiths to Patrick Swayze's "She's Like the Wind."

Check out the trailer and see the film while it's still in Chicago:

I met Maile last year when she was in town promoting 3Way with Maeve Quinlan and the rest of the crew at the Reeling Film Festival. She is even more hilarious in person!
