The Story of Stuff: A Great Educational Tool for Kids
If you haven't watched the 20 minute cartoon film called "The Story of Stuff," you are among only a few. It went viral after it hit the internet a couple of years back due to the simple format and powerful message. That message resonated with so many people that now there is a book! The purpose of the book is to address those parts of the issue that could not be put in the film due to the fact that it was only 20 minutes.
THE FILM
The story, written and narrated by Annie Leonard, is a tour of real costs of our consumer drive culture - covering resource extraction, production, distribution, consumption, and disposal. It answers the questions "where does all the stuff we buy come from and where does it go when we throw it out?" Ms. Leonard is an activist who spent 10 years traveling and observing with her own eyes how these environmental issues play out around the world. I promise I cannot the film justice by explaining it, so please just watch it. You will not regret it. It's fascinating and it's a great tool to teach kids how to be a responsible consumer.
THE BOOK
The book, also titled "The Story of Stuff," is out this month. It allowed the author to answer questions from the tens of thousands of emails she got after releasing the film and it does so in a format that is 100% PCW (post-consumer waste recycled) using soy inks and solvent free glues, and not chlorine treated.
