Valentine's Day may be on the 14th but you can show love any day. And kids need love, too! Check out these fun Valentine's Day themed events and crafts for kids and the whole family. (Or learn how to create your own green family celebrations.)
Get Crafty Since flowers can be expensive and little Max used his allowance for his toy dinosaur collection, teach him how to make his own flowers. Whether tissue paper flowers or the various other kinds, he can create a whole bouquet. Good for Mother's Day, too!
Or check out these craft projects to make Valentine's Day cards from cds, paper, and wood, and cool valentine boxes.
Show Your Support If you're looking for something a little unconventional and like the idea of getting the kids involved in supporting a cause for the holiday, check out these options:
Be My Valentine Family Event - This event supports the Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation and includes brunch, fun kid activities, and a children's concert by Justin Roberts. Sunday, 2/7 10am-1pm @ Four Seasons Chicago
Or, spread love and peace with The Valentine Peace Project. On and around Feb 14th, commit random acts of kindness by writing a poem or printing one from their site and then giving it away as is or wrapped around a flower.
EVENTS Fun for the whole family! Bond over glue, scissors, and recycled paper while making your own valentine cards at the the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. Saturday 2/6 and 2/13, 11am-3pm. Free with museum admission. Registration required.

You'll learn the process of making honey (2/6) and vanilla (2/13) and get to taste them, too. Kid activities include designing a scratch and sniff necklace, designing a "leaf rubbing" Valentine's Day card, making a chocolate sachet, and other drop-in stations, such as a cozy Sweet Reads book nook. 11am-4pm, $3.
Kids Day at Whole Foods (Lincoln Park) Enjoy arts and crafts with Clementine Art, other activities and a visit from the Instrument Petting Zoo of the New Music School.
