The Green Mama's favorite healthy option for school lunches has expanded! Gourmet Gorilla has acquired The Green Bag Lunch and now offers cold lunch/snack options in addition to hot ones.
Having this option is a busy, health-conscious parent's dream. If you've never checked out what your child is eating at school, it's safe to say that you won't think it's quality stuff. (See How Safe is Your Kid's School Lunch? for more on this.)
But thanks to Gourmet Gorilla, there is another option! You can purchase healthy, organic foods for breakfast, lunch, and snack time to be delivered to your child's school. Or make it even easier on yourself and get your child's school to sign up.
Healthy School Lunch Program Expands
Meals include 100% organic produce, free-range and grass-fed meats, and everything is free of growth hormones, antibiotics, and artificial preservatives. They are also non-GMO and peanut-free.
To get your child's school involved (wholesale option), simply fill out the form you'll find HERE and a Gourmet Gorilla rep will contact you. Lunches start at $3.00.
To order individually (retail option), they require a minimum of 10 children ordering from one school. Lunch and delivery is $5.00.
Examples of current menu selections can be found here: Menu_Winter_B.pdf
Is that all? NO!
Gourmet Gorilla also provides meals for camps, leads cooking classes, and organizes composting, recycling, and vegetable garden programs for schools. AND The Green Bag Lunch line will be available through Peapod starting in February. It doesn't get much easier!

Thanks so much for this great story! I want to point out an upcoming opportunity to help improve school lunches. Congress is revising the Child Nutrition Act, which currently makes no provision for vegetarian foods. We need to ask Congress to help schools serve more fruits, vegetables, vegetarian foods. You can get involved in a campaign that’s working to do just that: http://HealthySchoolLunches.org.
