Former White Sox News: Carrasco Signs on With Pirates
I was baffled when the White Sox let DJ Carrasco go because of a couple million, but when a player's next option is a non-roster spring training invite for the Pittsburgh Pirates, maybe there was some logic to the White Sox's move after all.

Or even less logic. Why not bring a guy back if that is all he was going to make and let him try to make the team again.
I personally thought DJ wasn't anything more than a valuable mop-up guy but 1M for one of the best mop up guys in baseball is a great deal.

Mop up guy is right.
I wish someone could put together the stats of DJ's numbers in games where we trailed by 3 runs or more vs. games where it was tight.
If I were a betting man, I'd put a lot down that there was a drastic difference.

? I am not sure I would call him a mop up guy, but guys like Carrasco are valuable because, like a SP that goes 6-7 innings every start, they help the team keep the bullpen fresh. He finished 1st or 2nd* in relief appearances or innings? And they were generally quality innings. The fact that he finished games where we lost shouldn't be a judgement factor against him.
*Pittsburgh has the other guy, so they will probably have a pretty good pen this year.
