ESPN: '05 White Sox One of Decade's Best
Perhaps something to dive into further later on, but here's a quick ESPN read on why the 2005 White Sox should considered one of the decades best teams. Couldn't agree more.

The 2005 SOX won as much on the road as they did at home; and their post season run was like that of a man among boys. Maybe this years Yankee team matches up, but I'd take the SOX over them and the rest of the WS champions of this decade.

2004 Boston Red Sox.Swept the Angels in the division series 3-0 Swept the Cardinals in the World Series 4-0 but even more impressive being down in AL Championship series 3-0 to the Yankees then staging one of the greatest comebacks in Major League history to win 4 straight from the Yankees to win the World Series. The 2004 Red Sox are the greatest team in the decade in my opinion

Hmm. So 10 - 3 in post season makes the Red Sox the best team? Your sense of history is belied by your, well, sense of history: " then staging one of the greatest comebacks in Major League history to win 4 straight from the Yankees to win the World Series." That Red Sox team did manage to do something "historic", something with a monkey; but, don't fob it off as the greatest feat . . . No one outside of New England gave a - well, you get the point.

As great as winning a series after being down 3-0 is, I don't understand how so many people forget that the Red Sox also played the first three games of that series and PUT THEMSELVES in that position. Not like MLB said "ok, we aren't going to play the first three games of series and instead will just put them down as Yankee wins. Red Sox, good luck."

Sorry tom, but in my book, greatest teams of decades don't dig themselves 3-0 holes to begin with...I'll take our body of work from '05 over any other...it was truly "lightning in a bottle".

I am 48 years old and the 2005 White Sox brought so much joy to me. Watching the playoffs and world series was so much fun. Nothing better to win than having dominating pitching. I think think the 2010 version could have a very strong staff also. I like there chances.
Thank God I was not born a Cubs fan.
Merry Christmas to all.

If you like the sox chances in 2010 maybe you should have been born a cub fan

It's no question as far as I'm concerned that the 05 Sox were the greatest team of the decade, but I'm more than a little biased. Essentially, every fan will consider their team the greatest, I'm just happy (and honestly shocked) that 05 got some love from ESPN.
Less than 1 week ago I read a story somewhere claiming the Bartman incident was one of the most memorable stories of the decade while the 05 Sox weren't even mentioned. How pathetic is it that the Cubs losing game 5 of a divisional playoff is more noteworthy than the Sox winning everything?! Total crap, but oh well. It reminds me of how the Red Sox were worshiped for finally ending a WS drought in 04 while the Sox were virtually ignored for ending an equally long drought and the major WS story that year was Roidger Clemens. Yuck.

The 05 White Sox were a classically good team in a baseball sense. They gave many of us die hard fans a championship we never thought we'd live to see. The team and the entire experience of that year will never be forgotten. The problem is they didn't follow through and take control of the Chicago baseball scene. After mid 06 the team plays mostly lousy baseball, the effect somewhat modified by a narrowly won division championship in 06 followed by four and out in the playoffs. I really wanted the Sox to have a long run of success, but now we're once again wandering on the edge of the baseball wilderness. I'll be long gone if the Sox have another 88 year chammpionship drought.

Division championship in 08. I'm a lousy typist.

Got to agree with you there. I would have loved nothing better than to see that 06 team get back into the playoffs and force the world to pay attention to the other Chicago team. Unfortunately, Mike MacDougal was on the roster. I know it's irrational to blame one player for an entire season, but I do. i blame Mike MacDougal. Sue me.

As I tell anyone who listens, the '05 White Sox were not just a great team, they were historically great. That team did things that less than a handful of teams in MLB History accomplished. I went nuts the other day when I saw sports illustrated named the '09 Yankees as the best single season performance of the decade because they won 100 games, and the world series in the same season.
I broke down the numbers, and the '09 Yankees certainly out-hit the '05 during the regular season, but the '05 White Sox had a much better starting staff and bullpen than the '09 Yanks. In the postseason, the '05 White Sox both out-hit AND out-pitched the '09 Yankees.
Also, the White Sox had FOUR straight complete games in the ALCS, and that hadn't happened in the postseason since 1956. Plus, a wire-to-wire division title and World Series sweep has only happened two other times, the 1990 Cincinnati Reds and the 1927 Yankees. Repeat....the 27 YANKEES!

great comment. Glad I came back.
I really think the '09 Yankees were about as good as a team could be during the season, but I think the '05 Sox would take 'em in a best of seven series post season series. The Sox had way too much pitching for them.

Right on to recent comments. The East Coast Media Bias is blatant, and its odor is offensive. And, oh by the way, we did all that you have so correctly outlined with a $75MM Payroll...a minor detail. The kind of team effort our boys put together is what makes baseball worth watching in the hopes of seeing something so uncommon, and unexpected.
