Adam Lambert out gagas Lady Gaga at AMAs

Adam Lambert glammed up Sunday's "American Music Awards," but I wasn't impressed.

I think he was trying too hard to shock--to out gaga Lady Gaga. He did it, but at the expense of a strong vocal performance. Gaga does some crazy stuff onstage, but she almost always sounds fantastic too. Glambert was off-key and out of sync. He sounded kind of cartoonish, actually. What was he trying to do with his voice?

His performance was disappointing because I loved him all the way through "American Idol."

Don't get me wrong, I still love the guy, both for being so out there and being so out. I wasn't offended by the boy-on-boy kiss, or the simulated fellatio, or the wielding of the mic stand between his legs. And actually all that could have worked in his spectacle of a performance--if he had actually performed "For Your Entertainment" well.

I remember on "Idol" his singing actually moved me, gave me chills at times. I think all the shock and awe on Sunday got in the way and prevented him from doing that.

Adam the entertainer and knock-out singer is the guy I tuned into see.

What did you think? Here's the vid and a gallery of photos from the performances. (Photos courtesy of ABC.)

hahaha nice caption. "Shakira and friends." Don't you mean hip-gyrating, scantily clad, friends?

Adam Lambert is very talented, but his performance was not up to par. The show was a letdown. The singing was exceptional, but the over the top dance routines were ridiculous. At times it appeared we were watching a Vegas revue. Do they need a distraction to cover up inadequate singing?

These awards shows always bring out the over produced spectacles, don't they? All about the ratings and water-cooler talk the next day. It can be disappointing. Thanks for commenting.

Whoa, I missed the boy-on-boy kiss. But once I saw the crotch grind, I was like ok, well he's insured that he'll be discussed tomorrow. :)

Sorry, mean 'ensure' not 'insured'

I get that he's trying to break out of the "Up With People" vibe that some American Idol folks have, but the simulated blow job, on top of flicking off the audience, on top of a really awful song, sung poorly... ick. Now we have to hear about it on The View, CNN and the like. Fox News will probably have all kinds of "Pro Family" nutjobs on talking about how gays corrupt youth... so, while he may want to shock, he's not helping. I hope this star fades quickly. IMHO.

Creating your own controversy is like giving yourself a nickname... it's a douche-bag move.

That was disgusting. I cant believe people complain about shows like Gossip Girl that shows 2 seconds of a three people kissing but dont say nothing when two guys kiss. I hate American Idol because its making all these freaks famous. I dont hate gays but I dont think they should be flaunting that shit infront of everyone.
