After the second part of the "Sanctuary" Season 2 premiere, fans are asking, "Is Ashley Magnus really dead?" I asked star and producer Amanda Tapping that very question before the season began.

"There were a lot of factors at play and we knew it was a ballsy move," she answered, laughing when I said I knew she wouldn't tell me. "We'll see how it plays out."

OK, so that didn't work very well. But Tapping did tell me that the intensity of "End of Nights" Parts 1 and 2, including Ashley's beastly transformation and the defeat of the Cabal, will only be heightened in the third episode.

"Everyone is focused on trying to find Ashley," Tapping said of the ep, airing at 9 p.m. Oct. 23. "So Episode 3 is very intense."

Helen Magnus (Tapping) is hell-bent on learning what happened to her daughter (Emilie Ullerup). The episode's title, "Eulogy," certainly leads me to believe Ashley's gone, but I'd never say anything for certain--and neither will Tapping.

"Is anyone ever really dead," she asked during our chat, making me laugh. "I mean that sincerely. I love [sci-fi] for that reason. Especially with [our] show, the mythology is such that nobody is ever really dead."

And don't think the Cabal and its evil leader, Dana Whitcomb (Lynda Boyd), are gone for good either.

"We didn't want [the season] to become the Cabal versus Sanctuary," Tapping said. "So we sort of take care of them, or think we do."

Don't miss the rest of the Amanda Tapping interview.
