SCIENCE OF THE MOVIES 8 p.m. Tuesday, The Science Channel
Tune in or out? out of four.
Nar Williams, the man behind the Web site Achieve Nerdvana, must have been beside himself while filming this new series. He gets to meet the wizards who create mind-blowing movie and TV special effects.
In Episode 1 he chats with John Dykstra, the man who created the Dykstraflex motion control rig that was used to blow up the Death Star in “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.” He then gets to star as himself—three times—in a segment filmed by Milo, the most commonly used motion control gadget today. Later he meets the brothers behind the FX company Hydraulx and finally straps on a body-mounted camera from Doggicam Systems.
Whether you’re a gadget geek or movie nerd or not, Williams’ enthusiasm is infectious. You can’t help but like the guy—or what he shows us.
According to Science Channel, future episodes Williams takes us behind the scenes of “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian,” “The Fast and The Furious” films and Showtime’s “Dexter.”
