JJ Abrams and his “Fringe” crew scored a massive casting coup: Leonard Nimoy will play the mysterious William Bell.

0826-LOOK-SPOCK-XXX_QQQ A Fox official just confirmed top me that Nimoy, aka Mr. Spock of the original “Star Trek,” will appear as Bell this season, possible the May 12 season finale. Fans of the show know that Bell runs the sketchy corporation Massive Dynamic, as well as crazy Walter Bishop’s old Harvard lab partner. But while Walter was institutionalized, Bell founded his company and became a gajillionaire.

The news was first reported by the Fringe TV Web site. Nimoy will play an old version of the Spock character in Abrams’ upcoming “Star Trek” reboot that opens in May.

How about instead, Fox opts to simply AIR THE SHOW AT THE TIME IT SAYS ITS GOING TO!!! I Tivo'ed this week's Fringe and when I went to play it, imagine my surprise when it turned out to half an episode of Fringe after American Idol ran 20 minutes long!

I enjoy Fringe but it's not exactly appointment tv for me and if this problem persists, well then that's one less show to schedule my life around I guess.

Curt's reply: Idol screwed up, for sure. But you can see the rest of the episode online at FOX.com and Hulu.com. It's continuing to get better and better. Thanks for commenting.

Thanks for the update. My wife and I were going through Fringe withdrawal and were psyched that it was back, although late due to American Idiot. Nimoy is a great catch and I hope that it draws viewers. I made my parents watch it knowing they loved X Files, and now they are hooked. Fox needs to market this better, but it has solid casting and stories and I hope it catches on. In these days where shows are canceled after a few airings, I hope this is given the legs it deserves.

Curt's reply: Fox didn't do it any favors postponing it for weeks due to Idol, but I hope people come back to it. I like it. Thanks for commenting.

Anyone that has ever watched a show that airs directly after American Idol knows that you always DVR at least the first 10 minutes of the show that airs directly after it. American Idol randomly runs long.

Curt's reply: True, but it apparently took some by surprise. Thanks for commenting.

Are they going to let him out of the retirement home to do this?

Curt's reply: He's not in a retirement home. Thanks for your agist comment.

Scott, as much as I hate what the weasels at Fox did, "Idol" ran 8 minutes long, not 20. Exaggeration gets you nowhere.

Curt's reply: Thanks for clearing that up for Scott.
