Is nudity a threat to family values?

I'm a little late to the game on this one, as my Google searches for "nudity" often steer me in directions that have very little to do with the respectable journalism you've come to expect here at Sex and the Windy City. But, a provocative new play has come to my attention that's playing until August 2nd, and I'd be remiss not to tell you to go see it. Why? Well, for one thing, it's called The Great American Nudie Spectacular. For another, it's a sketch comedy revue that aims to poke fun at both conservative and liberal family values, told in the style of Monty Python. Also, the premise is really intriguing, which is:

Why, in America, do we so often regard images of nudity as being more of a threat to 'family values' than images of violence?
We live in a culture full of video games like Grand Theft Auto, where you get points for murdering prostitutes, and where it's a common occurrence for political commentators like Bill O'Reilly to make threats of violence towards those whose opinions differ from their own - most recently against George Tiller, a Kansas abortion doctor who was murdered two months ago. So, I find the premise of The Great American Nudie Spectacular to be very intriguing, even though such heavy themes may not be addressed.

And have I mentioned that there will be nudity?

The show is part of Naked July: Art Stripped Down, National Pastime Theater's first-annual nude fine arts festival, which features plays, burlesque, readings and visual art.
