Sex and the Windy City

Carl's Jr and the rise of food porn

So apparently Carl's Jr. is holding a contest to see who can best rim a hamburger. All you need is $5, a vagina and a video camera. Unless you're ugly, then don't bother. This contest is for "Hot Chicks" only.

I don't know what's more offensive - that hundreds of people will no doubt submit videos of themselves blowing Jalepeno Burgers, or the astonishing rate which fast food ads are becoming really tacky porn.

Geez, Burger King, do you have to be so vague?

If this trend continues for much longer, then I quit Earth.

This upset me so much that I made an account here just to say how upset I was. Seriously!
I love food. I love women. I really hate these ads because of both of those facts! A: "food porn" should only ever have to refer to pretty pictures of delicious looking food that makes me hungry, not (presumably) horny! And really - eating a burger like that...just not sexy.
B: (the more important point) Whoah! Where to even begin? Calling all women "chicks"? Saying the burger is "more than just a piece of meat," ...in comparison to the women eating them that are?!
C: Tacky, tacky, tacky, tacky! Why is this at so many fast food chains?

I'm totally with you, MugZ. As my friend said, Food and sex go hand in hand. Food and the objectification of the female body for capitalism, not so much.

I miss when a burger was just a burger and you could say "WHERE'S THE BEEF" and really just wonder - where IS the beef?

That Padma video is just ridiculous. Seriously. And besides, who is the audience for that commercial? Is it men? The theoretical 15-35 y.o. male audience; finding women "eating like them" (one handed, in a very expensive dress, no napkin, on a stoop)appealing? Is that it?
Or is it for women? Showing us theoretical, never happy with our bodies, doing whatever we must to garnish the male attention, 16-27 y.o., women that even super hot ladies can get down and dirty with...
an extraordinarily fattening burger...?

Oh whatever. There's no point in going into the whys of it. I'll just again be grateful that none of this gets through my fashion and funny animal pictures only filters.
