Wednesgay News: Leather, burlesque and Midsommarfest

I'm ashamed to admit that I missed remarking on International Ms. Leather competition a few weeks ago and that Rockford native, Pony, was crowned International Ms. Bootblack.  I've been flogging myself (to her photo) ever since I found out. Thankfully, Jason Heidemann over at Time Out Chicago did a bang up job of covering the Ms. Leather festivities, as well as how women's inclusion is shaping what once was a predominantly gay male community.

"Case in point: At Chicago's fetish joint Jackhammer, people of all sexual orientations and gender expressions are welcome in the basement playground the Hole, provided they're wearing proper attire."
I've always found the leather bars in Chicago to be pretty welcoming. Touche even unofficially dubbed me their "toilet honey!" Just kidding, I could never take that title away from Ann Coulter.

What else is going on this weekend in Chicago:

Friday, June 12
Voyeurs, be sure to check out Western Exhibitions gallery opening this Friday, June 12th for Dutes Miller's phallic sculptures, collages and "visualizations of lust and desire found on the internet, and power dynamics in sexual relationships." Links NSFW.

Also this Friday, the Sex Workers Outreach Project and Clarisse Thorn of Sex+++ are screening Happy Endings: An exploration of the Asian massage parlor industry in Providence, RI. Starts at 7pm at the Leather Archives and Museum (6418 N Greenview). Suggested donation: $5-$10.

Saturday, June 13
Vaudezilla presents Absolut Sexy Chicago Burlesque Show. Free. 11pm and 2am at Exit Chicago1(315 W North Ave).

More burlesque! Girlie-Q Presents: Le Cabaret Erotique Variety, homage to burlesque gone by. 11pm at Uncommon Ground (1401 W. Devon Ave)

Andersonville Midsommarfest is here again. Here's hoping for no rain. Come to the gayborhood of the north and enjoy music, dance, entertainment and food, through June 14. Clark Street from Foster to Catalpa.

Adam Lambert came out to Rolling Stone yesterday, surprising no one. But the Windy City Gay Idol Finals are sure to have surprises in store for you. Starts at 4 pm at Sidetrack (3349 N. Halsted).

Girl, you did not mention the Friday Naked Girls Reading event. Guess I'll have to see naked girls in my figure drawing class instead :( totally not the same experience.

Of course! Naked Girls Reading! I'll be going to their reading this Friday and will post a write-up of the event soon. It's from 7-10pm at Studio L'Amour. Come say hi - I'll be the one wearing clothes.

Also, and this isn't really sex related, but there is nudity, so check out the Naked Bike Ride.
