Chicago Public Schools to provide STD testing as part of pilot program

Cook County is number one...in reported cases of gonorrhea nationwide! Suck on that, New York and L.A. (Or actually don't, because we want to keep our STDistinction). Staggering STD rates--we're also number two for Chlamydia--have prompted officials in Chicago Public Schools to start testing students. A pilot program, which was recently approved by ISBE and will be run by the city Department of Public Health, will target six high schools, providing education, testing and treatment to teens.
"It's a very large problem with teens and adolescents in Chicago, and it's very, very important that they get the information about these sexually transmitted infections," said Christopher Brown, Department of Public Health assistant commissioner.
Although this is a far cry from comprehensive sex education in public schools, it seems to be a step in the right direction.

Also, in case you missed National HIV Testing Day, but still want to take control of your health, Get Tested Chicago has a list of clinics, many of them free or low-cost.
