Sex and the Windy City

The low down and go down on Online Booty Call

Hook up sites are part of a growing trend of websites that allow us to forgo the pretense of "dating" and go right to fluid exchange, thus eliminating, well, pretty much all social interaction that goes with being human, I guess. A PR rep from Onlinebootycall.com contacted me a few weeks ago (they seem to be making the rounds) to tell me that Chicago is ranked #3 on the 2009 Top 10 Cities for Casual Dating, based on how many Chicagoans were on OBC compared to other cities.  Wooh, we're number f*cking 3? Can't we beat New York and L.A. at ANYTHING?

Not being one to turn down a chance to go under cover, or go under the covers, rather (shebooya!), I decided to check out the site myself. Upon entering, I was welcomed by a beautiful woman named Casie, with bountiful d├ęcolletage, who told me about a Million Dollar Sweepstakes (I'll get to that) and also pointed me to a blog she wrote about her top NFL draft picks. The only way Casie could have seemed more constructed as the ultimate stereotypical male fantasy would have been if she was smothered in hot wings.

OBC asked the usual profile stats: height, age, body type, dating expectations, though since I'm not a dude, I don't know if they ask about penile girth like they do on Adult Friend Finder.  There's an "About Me" section that hardly anyone filled out and a gallery of photos, mostly of girls bent over sectional sofas and dudes holding their shirts up to take pictures of their torsos in the reflection of a mirror.

Since it seems a bit of a stretch to me that girls are bending over backward (or forward) to f*ck random dudes on the internet for free, I asked the founder of the site, Moses Brown, how many female members Chicago had. He didn't know. And a week later, still no one has gotten back to me (though they did tell me that they had a "314% increase in membership this year!"). Judging from this contest, however, I think the answer is pretty clear:

* Anyone who invites 10 female friends to join OBC is automatically entered into the drawing for the Million Dollar Sweepstakes
* Anyone who is entered into the drawing ALSO qualifies to randomly win $1,000 CASH (10 members get $1,000.00 each)
* Whoever refers the most females wins $10,000 Cash Guaranteed.

They're offering one million dollars to someone for referring ten women?  Alright, give me a thou and I'll drop trou.

The one aspect that surprised me was that OBC claims to be a dating site:
"At OnlineBootyCall.com we take a casual approach to dating online. It's simple; don't promise marriage just to get a date."
Why is it then that a site called "online booty call" refuses to admit its purpose is for sex? It's an unusual pretense, especially from a site proclaiming to be free of pretension. And who are these people perpetually brandishing engagement rings? I've been dating online for almost 3 years now and zero percent of those dates have ended in a marriage proposal. And I've dated lesbians, so that's saying something. What they're really saying is "don't promise commitment or even a trip to Taco Bell when you can maybe but most likely not get a girl to f*ck you from the internet for free."
