Hanging With "Mr. Cub" & Egon at the Legendary Landmarks Gala
Saturday night nearly 400 guests gathered at the Palmer House Hilton in downtown Chicago for the 5th Annual Legendary Landmarks Gala. The event raised $300,000 for Landmarks Illinois, a group dedicated to protecting historically significant sites, building and districts in the Land of Lincoln.
Cubs Hall of Famer Ernie Banks, legendary director, screenwriter and actor Harold Ramis, and Chicago marathon founder and advertising giant Lee Flaherty were honored for their contributions to the civic and cultural life of Illinois.
Each of the honorees offered up a generous prize for the live
auction, which was held at the start of a lavish dinner in the Grand
Ballroom. A bid of $7,500 earned one attendee dinner with Ernie Banks,
an autographed baseball and jersey and box seats to a Cubs game, while
two private cocktail parties at the Flair House, a building built in
1833 and meticulously restored by Flaherty, went for over $7,500 each.
The top prize of the night (for which two attendees paid more than
$12,500) was dinner and a movie with Ramis, and the chance to hear all
the behind-the-scenes dirt on the making of one of his classics, like Caddyshack, Animal House or Ghostbusters.
After dinner the crowd headed to the Red Lacquer Room where the
drinks were flowing and there were even some nimble-footed couples
cutting a rug on the dance floor. All the all, the event was a great success. If given the chance, i'm sure Ernie "Let's Play Two" Banks, would do it all over again...
