Back in October the city of Chicago was abuzz with news of an unprecedented partnership between the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Blackhawks. Soon after the two teams announced that a joint ad campaign had been filmed, photos of Bears and Hawks mingling at Halas Hall in their game uniforms spread like wildfire.

Now it looks as though fans will never get a chance to see the creative campaign, which featured gimmicks like Robbie Gould trying to kick a field goal into a hockey net strapped to the uprights and Lance Briggs sharing tips on big hits with Brent Seabrook.

So who's responsible for the ads never getting to your TV? Take it away, Phil Rosenthal:

The NFL prohibits use of team marks and logos in connection with the promotion of other sports except by a three-quarters vote of the league's 32 clubs, according to NFL spokesman Greg Aiello.

The league saw no gray area, which is probably why the Bears-Hawks ads were thought to be unprecedented.

"We felt it was within the framework of the spirit of what the rule was," said Scott Hagel, Bears senior director of corporate communications. "They felt differently, and we have to respect their decision."

Seems like the kind of detail both teams would look into before filming the ads, no?

Both teams lose out on great publicity, but the Hawks are the biggest losers in this scenario, as they were the ones who put up the money for the campaign. Spokesmen for both teams expressed regret at the NFL's decision, but said they hope to find a way to work together in the future.
