First Place Hawks Will Only Get Better
It seems this season the NHL has been hit harder by injuries than ever before, and the Chicago Blackhawks haven't been immune.
The team's biggest offseason acquisition, Marian Hossa, underwent shoulder surgery in July and has yet to suit up for a game. Enforcer Adam Burish tore his ACL in a preseason game and isn't expected back until April. Team captain Jonathan Toews has missed the last four contests after taking a brutal open ice hit on October 21 and winger Ben Eager has missed the last 11 games with a concussion.
Despite injuries, the Hawks are third in the Western Conference and
tops in the Central Division with an 8-4-1 record. On Wednesday, for
the first time all season, Hossa, Toews and Eager were all on the
practice ice together. Hossa isn't expected to be in the lineup until
late November, but both Toews and Eager are just days (or a day) away.
Neither will play tonight against the Phoenix Coyotes, but there's no
word yet on tomorrow's contest with the Avalanche.
The return of Toews and Eager and the continued development of Hossa are all great signs for this Hawks team. Now if they could just get workin' on that power play...
