After the Chicago Cubs' heartbreaking first round sweep at the hands of the LA Dodgers last year, fans hesitated to put their hopes back in the North Siders. As it turns out, their concerns were warranted. Unlike years past, when postseason struggles marred otherwise successful seasons, this year the Cubs never even got the chance to choke in the playoffs.

The boys in blue finished second in the NL Central and their 83-78 record left them out of the postseason entirely. As a Cubs fan, it's hard to sift through the negatives of the 2009 season and find many (any?) positives.
Looks like the folks behind the "2009 This Year In Baseball Awards" were hard-pressed to find any, either.

A quick look at the nominees reveals that fans from nearly every team can vote for a variety of big awards. Cards fans can choose Adam Wainwright as starting pitcher of the year, Padres fans can elect Heath Bell as closer of the year and even Pirates fans can vote young stud Andrew McCutchen for rookie of the year.

Chicago Cubs fans have this:

Yes, proud supporters of one of the most beloved franchises in sports can hang their hat on Mr. T's performance of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame".  Mr. T will battle nine other nominees for the honor of "Oddity of the Year."

What's that? Oh well lookie here. Turns out Mr. T isn't the only "oddity" nominee Chicago fans can vote for. Outfielder Milton Bradley made the cut, too.

I guess you could call a professional baseball player not knowing how many outs there are in a inning an "oddity."

Reliever Carlos Marmol is the only "real" award nominee from the Cubs; he's up for setup man of the year. Not surprisingly, the official website of the Chicago Cubs links to the awards with the headline "Marmols' play, Mr. T's voice up for TYIB Awards." No mention of Bradley.
