The Cubs have traded troubled outfielder Milton Bradley to Seattle for pitcher Carlos Silva and some cash.

Here's the terms according to Jon Heyman of SI.Com

The Mariners and Cubs reached agreement on a deal that would send outfielder Milton Bradley to Seattle in exchange for pitcher Carlos Silva and $6 million, SI.com has learned.

The money, which will be paid out over two years, is to offset the difference in salaries (Bradley is owed $21 million over the next two years and Silva is due $25 million over the same period) and to make up for Silva's poor performance.

The correct reaction for this trade should not be:

"Thank God Milton is gone!"

The correct reaction for this trade should be:

"We traded trash for hot garbage?"

Carlos Silva is hot garbage.  He signed a four year/48 million dollar contract before the 2008 season and since signing the dotted line has gone 5-18 with a 6.81 ERA giving up 143 runs in 183 2/3 innings pitched.  He has been on the disabled list numerous times more recently for ligament damage in his pitching shoulder.

Although the ego and attitude of Milton Bradley labels him a clubhouse cancer, he is still a much better ballplayer at what he does than Silva ever has been.

This is just the latest move this off season by Jim Hendry that frankly makes me go "that's it?"

First Jake Fox leaves for three pitching prospects from Oakland (we know how good those guys are i.e., Zito, Hudson, etc.), and now Milton Bradley leaves for cash and a broken overpaid arm.

Cub fans, I beg you to not let your excitement that Milton Bradley is gone overshadow that actual deal that was made.  This is not a good deal for the Cubs and I hope Cub fans will hold Jim Hendry accountable rather than celebrate him pulling the trigger on this move.

Hendry did what the fans wanted him to do. Fans and sportswriters demanded Bradley be traded. So Hendry got rid of him. I don't think it's fair to Hendry to expect him to get back some great player for Bradley, right after the fans and everyone else gets done talking about what a worthless jerk the guy is on the team.

I blame Hendry for not having the balls to just stick the situation out with Bradley. But I blame getting Silva on all the fans that were so 100% adamant that the only thing to do with Bradley was trade him. I hope those fans feel much better as they watch the Cubs go around .500 this season.

Milton Bradley is capable of hurting opponents with the bat. Once in a while when he's using it to hit a baseball too. Silva though is only dangerous to buffet tables. How is this better for us?
