When will CTA Washington Red Line stop reopen?

user-pic
Via Twitter, a rider asked about the Washington Red Line stop. The CTA's response is below.

"Will the Washington Red Line stop open when Block 37 and pedway opens on Thanksgiving?"

The CTA responded: "No, there is currently no timeline for when the Washington Red Line station will reopen, or when the paid transfer tunnel (one level below the pedway) between the Washington Red and Blue Line stations will reopen."

They rebuilt the entire Dan Ryan and two elevated lines in a two year period. Whats the big deal about a one block long pedestrian tunnel? Pedestrians are treated like low life. People are really losing their patience with this public walkway.

The pedway is open now.

Well, the upper-level pedway is open. This is about the Red Line station at Washington and the associated paid area transfer tunnel between the Red Line and the Blue Line. Before it was closed, this was a major transfer point between the two lines. While there is nothing wrong with closing the station temporarily for improvements, there should be a plan in place to re-open it given the number of people who used it. The whole idea of express trains to the airports is bogus anyway. If the Blue Line were able to run at its original design speed, there would be no need for the express service and as it stands, the express service would be no faster than the Blue Line since the "express" trains would not be able to pass. Whoever thought that this was a good idea was an idiot.

I was responding to Bob's comment about the pedway. But I do believe the concept of express service to the airports included bypass tracks so the express trains would indeed be able to pass the regular, all-stop service.
