Must-see holiday movies you need to know about

user-pic
The busy holiday season is here, which means you have shopping to do, dinners to prepare and in-laws to avoid. Somewhere in there, the studios hope, you'll find time to see a movie.
Which to choose?

Fox is hoping it will be "Avatar" on Dec. 18, the sci-fi adventure from James Cameron with a reportedly humongous budget of $500 million. From the looks of things, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," which set box office records when it opened a week ago and is poised to trounce any new competition this week, including Viggo Mortensen's high-anticipated turn in "The Road," still will be a force when "Avatar" opens.

A week after "Avatar," Robert Downey Jr. turns up in a rocket-fueled "Sherlock Holmes." We've seen the previews, and we're there. It's elementary, dear readers.

Here's a look at some of the other movies we'll be marking on our December calendar.

The description for 'The Lovely Bones' is wrong, it lists the description of the South African movie again.

Great list, but I can't believe The Blind Side didn't make your list! I haven't seen it yet but it sure looks like a very inspiring true movie.

Why isn't The Road on a massive release? Oh that's right, because its not a sequel, or some stupid Emmerich or Bay movie, and it actually has a story to tell.

Its way above the head of 90% of the populace of this country. Oh well, I'm sure Daddy Day Care 4 will be on every screen in 3D though.

I won't go see Avatar, because it just isn't grabbing me. The music in the trailer is not enough to make the movie epic.

I am ashamed to say I saw New Moon and thought that it was a waste of my time and money. I feel sorry for poor Edward and Jacob for being in love or lust with Bella, who is immature and self-centered.

I can't wait to see Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Parnassus (with Heath Ledger).

2012 was a good movie, because teh crisis wasn't averted like in DeepImpact or Armageddon. That is really annoying when a movie is about the planet being destroyed or humankind being wiped out and just before total annihilation the crisis is averted.

Haven't seen Precious, nor do I plan to, because it looks so depressing. The author really laid it on thick with the suffering. To me it looks like The Color Purple updated. Precious is ugly, so was Celie. Precious is sexually abused by her father (so i've been told), so was Celie. Precious has one child and is pregnant with the second, Celie had two children with the man she thought was her father. Precious can't read, neither could Celie.
