Why should shouldn't be on Google Chat while watching TV

Scott Michael Foster, who plays Cappie on 'Greek.' Is he cute or what?

**Warning: Greek spoilers ahead**

Last night, I was watching my favorite "warm fuzzies" show, 'Greek.'

After three seasons of dragged out, unnecessary cuteness, Casey and Cappie got together. It was destiny on ABC Family.

Z. O. M. G.!!!  I couldn't believe it. Since my roommate was out and the dog didn't seem to care, I had no one to freak out with.

Cue the GChat. Social Media Ernest Wilkins was online. He loves 'Greek' too. We could freak out together, I thought.
me: AHHHHH!!!
CAPPIE AND CASEYYYYYYYY

A pause, while I changed my away message to "CAPPIE AND CASEY FTW!"

Then:

Ernest: DONT TELL ME!! NOT WATCHING!!!!

me: HOW ARE YOU NOT WATCHING

So here are my reasons why not to be on your laptop while watching TV:

1. You may accidentally put spoilers in your away message ('Lost' spoilers are, however, okay) and anger friends
2. Instant communication makes you realize that not everyone is as lame as you, watching TV by yourself
3. Being in touch with your friends all the time makes you realize that your friends are pretty lame.

Why wasn't Ernest watching 'Greek,' which is a RedEye intern requirement?

Ernest: I was grocery shopping

So yes, you shouldn't be on your computer while watching 'Greek.' But at least I wasn't flying a plane.

Why is LOST an exception? I mean, I'm totally a LOST fan (i was literally screaming with my friends about the various twists at the last season end... aaaargh fake john locke) but what makes lost exempt from spoiler updates?

Also, if anyone considered "fake john locke" to be a spoiler six months out from the finale, you don't deserve to be watching lost. period.
