When will the CTA rehab Red Line north stations?

Joi Barnes wrote to "Going Public" wanting to know when the Sheridan Red Line stop will be rehabbed. The CTA response is after the jump.

"When, if ever, does the CTA plan to update the Sheridan Red Line stop? There has been nothing done to this stop ever.

There are about 50 stairs (it seems) to climb to get to the platform and no elevator or escalator. The station is old, dirty, smelly and pretty much an eyesore.

I have noticed that every station has had some type of update or work done but, not this one.  What is up with CTA ignoring the riders of the Sheridan stop?"

The CTA responded: "Ideally, CTA wants all stations to be accessible, as well as comfortable, safe and dry.

In order to make Sheridan station accessible, with an elevator, escalator and adequate clearances, the CTA would need to perform significant reconfiguration and structural work.

The same holds true for the other stations along the Red Line North branch, most of which have very narrow platforms, among other challenges. CTA is currently undertaking a study of the Red Line North that will provide guidance for doing major rehabilitation work, including addressing questions of staging and funding requirements.

In the meantime, the agency plans to do life-extension upgrades at several of the Red Line North stations that have not had recent investment, and Sheridan is on this list. However, this work is contingent upon the availability of funding. These improvements would include lighting, drainage and roof upgrades, among other items, all of which would make for a more pleasant experience for our customers."

Especially with the Cubs directing fans towards this stop to alleviate congestion at the Addison stop, it needs rehab.

Worries about nice new stations and there won't be anyone to drive the train because CTA will spend to re-hab not pay salaries.

Moshucat, money for paying salaries (operational funds) and money for rehabbing or rebuilding stations (capital funds) come from two different sources.

There are some Red Line north stations that should be rehabbed/should be wheelchair accessible.

Actually, the funding that would be needed for the Red Line north stations could come from delaying/stopping the expansion projects.
