**UPDATE TUES. OCT. 13**
Well, as you've undoubtedly seen in the comments, the worst appears to be over. Accounts are coming back, profiles are in tact - and all seems right with the world. Obviously, your mileage may vary when it comes to your successes and losses in Mafia Wars and Farmville, but I think the most important thing is that most of you did not lose your Facebook livelihood.

I am not an expert in this area, but it appears to me as though there's a little more involved than flipping a switch to get things back online and I think that's what got us to 9 days and beyond for some of us. The good news is that your profiles did not become Sidekick contacts - you guys read about that? Folks lost the data on their phones! - and we're back to where we were.

This number is far from official, but I have heard that as many as 150,000 Facebook accounts were impacted by this database problem. And while 150,000 sounds like a giant number to most people, consider that when you are talking about 250-300 million Facebook users that it's a tiny fraction.

Feel free to use this post to continue talking and cultivating the friendships that were made here during your time of trouble. If there's anything else to update, I promise to update you here.

It was wondering getting to know each and every one of you.

**UPDATE 3 - MON. OCT. 12**
Here's the message faithful commenter Dutch10 received today when he logged into Facebook after being without it for many days:

Our apologies for the extended site maintenence

You may not have been able to access your account over the last several days. We're sorry for the inconvenience; an extended technical issue affected a small number of Facebook accounts, including yours. We have done our best to restore you account to its most recent state, but some data and settings may not be current In order to be cautious, we defaulted some of your privacy settings to their most restrictive settings. You may wish to review your privacy settings and reset them. In addition, some of your content may not be up to date. This includes:

Photos or content you may have recently added or deleted. Friends you may have recently added or removed. Other content you've added, sent, received, or posted.

All of Facebook's features are working, and you will be able to communicate and share information with your friends just like before. We recommend double checking your settings, applications friends list, ect. to make sure everything is in order. We appreciate you support of Facebook and are taking steps to ensure these sorts of problems do not happen again.

If you encounter any problems with you account over the next few days, let us know here.


Interesting! Finally someone with some resolution. And it appears as though some other people are starting to get the same response, so it appears as though the worst might be over. However, it appears as though accounts are being rebuilt so it may take more time for you to see results - I'm not sure, but that's just an educated guess.

Please let us all know when you get back on and whether or not your experience is similar. Thanks to everyone and thanks Dutch10 for taking the time to send this.

I feel like we've created our own community here, and that this post has taken on quite a life. So please ... even though you'll be back to normal in no time, I hope you'll come back here and comment. It will give the folks who aren't back to normal more hope and it will let us all know whether or not the downtime had permanent impact - on Farmville, Mafia Wars, etc.

**UPDATE 2 - MON. OCT. 12**
The following is the text of the note I just sent to Mark Zuckerberg (Head of Facebook) seeking his response to what is currently happening. I don't know if I'll hear anything back, but I wanted you all to know that I am all over this thing.

Hi, Mark. I'm Scott Kleinberg from RedEye at the Chicago Tribune. The link attached is a post talking about people who have been without Facebook service for 10 days and some have gotten no response to repeated pleas for help. I am looking for a statement that I can share with my readers. Thank you, Mark. I appreciate your time. Scott

Some of you are on Day 10 now. Day 10. I never thought I'd be typing that. Have any of you had any luck? Please keep me posted and of course, I'll do the same. In the meantime, the above link called Facebook Support Group was inspired by a commenter in this very post. While you are waiting for Facebook to come back, hopefully this will prove to be a nice read. Hang in there, patient ones.

**UPDATE SUN. OCT. 11**
Nothing. Someone in the comments nicknamed this whole thing "Maintenancegate," and you know what? It's a perfect name for something that's just gotten so far out of hand. Keep leaving your updates in the comments - for many of you, this has become the defacto Facebook and I'm happy to inform you that this site isn't going down.

**UPDATE FRI. OCT. 9**
Many of the same people who have been down and following this post all along are still down. Some of you, however, might have a different notice when try to log in that really doesn't tell you anything you didn't already know.

I think Facebook needs to do more about this problem than telling people to visit the help center. I really do. What's even more fascinating is that some of you are actually using this post as your own defacto Facebook to stay in touch with people and meet new friends - friends that understand what you going through. I applaud you for that and for your patience and hope you'll keep us all posted. I'll try to do the same.

**UPDATE THU. OCT. 8**
I'm seeing sporadic reports here today that some folks are getting service back. Not everyone, but some and, well, hopefully it's the start of something beautiful.

Otherwise, same message up today talking about a 24-hour turnaround. And still nothing on the blog. What's worse is that the headline on the blog goes with an interesting story but it reads "How happy are we?" Folks obviously aren't happy but at the end of the day, this problem impacts such a small segment of Facebook's massive user base. But tell that to the people - like yourselves - that are affected. Says a lot about how much we all depend on Facebook.

**UPDATE WED. OCT. 7**
Facebook has issued another update on this inability to access accounts issue. Unfortunately, it's on their fan page and not listed on the Facebook blog. Here's the message in its entirety so you don't have to go looking around for it.

We are experiencing a technical issue with one of our databases that is resulting in an extended period of maintenance for some of you. We are working on a fix and hope to have this resolved in the next 24 hours. You can stay updated at http://www.facebook.com/help.

Please continue to let me know how you are doing in this situation - I'd like, if at all possible, to measure when folks start coming back online. From what it appears, certain account information is contained in certain databases and this one database - at least Facebook hasn't said it's more than one - is down, causing the sporadic outages. Now that it's public and other mainstream media besides this site has FINALLY started jumping on the bandwagon, I think the fix will be sooner rather than later.

**UPDATE TUES. OCT. 6**
Facebook released a statement today (FINALLY) about this situation:

Site Maintenance errors Some users have been experiencing difficulty logging into the site for several days. After they enter their login information they receive a "Site Maintenance" error message. We are aware of this technical issue and are working to resolve it as soon as possible.

So hang in there! It appears help is on the way.

WTF?!? (What the Facebook?!?)

Not sure if you are having problems or not, but apparently Facebook is down for some and it's been down for an extended period of time.

This is the message greeting the unlucky ones:

Account Unavailable
Your account is temporarily unavailable due to site maintenance. It should be available again within a few hours. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I've seen that error--we've all seen that error. But normally the message is truthful and things return to normal. But in searching Twitter and other Web sites, some folks have been without Facebook access for 3 days now.

So now what?
Well, using Twitter, I asked @redeyechicago's loyal followers if they were having trouble with Facebook. Other than some sporadic photo uploading issues, no one locally is reporting this exact account maintenance - account unavailable problem.

So I decided to ask a question and make the most of the situation.

"Some people haven't been able to get on Facebook for days. So with one word, tell me: If I can't get on Facebook, I'll ________."

And we're getting some very creative answers, even though not everyone stuck to one word. That's OK. I love all answers.

Yep - unavailable since Sunday morning. Sent an email to FB, no response. Apparently no way to speak to a person if you contact their HQ. Rumor has it that a server or group of servers are down; however, this has not been confirmed by FB. I started a new account, but would prefer my old one back!

I am having the same issue with account unavailable since Sunday morning. Trying to find someone to email at Facebook was challenging. I finally emailed the abuse email address and have been doing so every 12 hours and have not received a single response.

Another search that returns a lot of results is http://www.twazzup.com/?q=facebook+unavailable&l=all - this is obviously a fairly significant outage that the mainstream media has so far completely ignored. Facebook could apparently care less - they seem to think Latin-language translations and nonsensical measures of status updates are far more important than acknowledging their problems - pretty pathetic: http://blog.facebook.com/

Thank you everyone for all the comments, and I'm really sorry you are going through this. Believe me, when my Facebook goes down for an hour I'm pretty unhappy so I can't even begin to imagine what you are all going through.

While this story isn't getting as much attention as it should, rest assured that mainstream media isn't ignoring it - I'm on top of it and watching for any signs of updates from Facebook. The moment I see something, I'll update this post.

In the meantime, I suggest that everyone pass this link along - the more people that are aware of the problem, the better.

And for those of you that have already commented, please come back and let me know when things are normal for you again and what if anything transpired to reach that point.

Thanks for the update. I am down since Saturday and since I communicate with a lot of people via FB I started a new account. Once my old one is up and running I am deleting the new one. Until then, I AM BACK !!! They do need to work on their communication skill though. No response at all.

I'm in Virginia and I'm paddling up the same creek. It happened sometime Sunday morning and I've had all my friends that I'm able to contact report it using the specific help topic "friend's page not viewable". Yeah, we all know what you get when you send a message to FB, a robo-message saying they can't respond to every bug report but they do read them. Uh-huh. I'll just go take a nap for a few days and hope my social network hasn't died.

Like others, I've invested allot of time in the games that they offer, that you can not now get into because our accts on facebook are unavailable. Sure hope they fix it soon. Scott, I do appreciate the reporting on this, as well. I, too, have been searching for other users experiencing the same problem but couldn't find anything current.

Personally, I think it's an insidious plot by Facebook to show us feel what the world would be like without it. Then, when they announce a new fee for service we won't object as much as we might have before the sabotage! Okay, I'm not that paranoid, but it has made me realize how much of my socializing occurs on-line nowadays. When on when will my Facebook profile be freed? I'll pay any amount of ransom at this point!

Well my account has been down sense monday 10/5 and I live in GA - thank for the link because here's what i did - I created a new account on facebook and darn if that one didn't go to "Unavailable Account" status as well - this REALLY bites the big one! :( but the link helped alot - just hope i'm one of the ones that will get released as soon as they let everyone up and running!

It is super frustrating...as I am one of "those people" that log on at least once a day to keep in touch w/family and friends. It's SUPER frustrating that you aren't able to get an actual Customer Service person when you call FB for help- let alone they don't reply to any type of e-mail. Also, my husband IS able to log into his FB account, and when he clicks on my name/profile it gives him a message that says my profile is unavailable...so nobody is even able to send me msgs or look at my photos etc. on my profile while FB is doing "maintenance".

I'm from the UK and i've been having this problem from last night. I hope its up and running soon I cant imagine having to go all day without it. I was going mad last night! I hope I don't have to wait 3-4 or more days for them to fix the problem.
I've checked with other friends and they can get onto there profiles. When they click on mine though it says this profile is unavailable at the moment!
I'm a facebook addict and i would like it up as soon as possible.

Good to see that this is gaining traction and that there's at least a timeframe to get everything back to normal again. Do remember to please comment when your service returns, ok? I'm impressed that so many of you stuck it out!! I mean even though it would have been a logistical mess I would have created a new account by now just to get my fix. Near Seattle here, and mine went down around 11pm PST sat night. I was actually using it and it went all wonky. I haven't been able to log in since, but one of my groups got a message out that I was sent an alert on, so I have hope my account is still actually there somewhere.

Still down here too, some 72+ hours since I first noticed the problem.

It's disappointing to see Facebook's blog still fails to acknowledge this - all we have is a wall post that most users won't find by themselves, and a couple of sentences on the help page that many users will skim past without even noticing. Just a degree of transparency towards the users who keep them in business might be in order...

One of my co-workers actually had issues with facebook, although, I'm not sure she was actually aware of it, until we left her random messages of 'where's your photo?'

Her profile came back within a few minutes. but her name and photo were gone during the little ordeal.

It's nice to know I'm not alone and that help may be on the way. My problems started Saturday night with some of my items missing and not processing my games, etc. When I tried to log in Sunday, I have the "under site maintenance" error. I thought I had a virus from the trying to download a Facebook Layout. I live in Idaho.

Mine has been out since at least 6 am on Sunday, Oct. 4th! It is beyond frusterating! I wish they could at least update us as to what is going on. The little sentence now was better than nothing, but more info would be great! Maybe it should be on the news, that would put them on it quickly (or at least you would hope!). It's been 4 days and counting now since I've been able to log onto facebook. I'm sure my friends miss me, but they're carrying on with their facebook lives without me! Almost as if I was never even there. Is this what it will be like when I die? ;)

I am in Northern Virginia - been out since Saturday, 10/3. I e-mailed the help-less desk twice. I did get a generic reply from them asking for a screen shot. Replied as asked. Nothing back. The second e-mail was not answered...but by then, I'm sure they got the hint with the help of all who e-mailed having the same problem. Maaaaybe tomorrow we are back on. Hey, I'm not sure if anyone tried this or not, I only did it for the sake that if my account really couldn't get back on normally, I'd want to know if I can use the same email for a new one. Since the problem isn't fixed yet, I thought it doesn't hurt to try. Guess what I found~ you know you could actually use your "unavailable-account-email" to register for another new one.

Wow, still no access. It took almost 3 days to get a statement that there was a problem, then a statement saying 24 hours to resolve the issue, and here is another 24 hours and still cannot access with no update from FB. Unbelievable.

Well, I'm out in Boston. No FB since Sunday and it isn't back today. This is day 5 for me as well. Just tried again, being that the latest update said they should have it resolved in 24 hours. Still nothing! So frustrating! I almost missed dinner gathering with old coworkers because the address was in facebook! Luckily, it seems your friends can still send you messages. I was checking my regular email and saw a facebook message asking why I wasn't at the dinner so I was able to go after all. I guess I'll just have to keep checking like everyone else. I did a search for myself trying to at least locate my old account hoping it said "account unavailable" but NO....my account did not exist. Now don't keel over anyone, but Facebook has finally updated something! The error message a lot of us get when attempting to log in. They've also provided a link to their oh-so-handy help page so you can stay updated-- that's the page that showed absolutely nothing about the error until three days into the issue (and has not changed in that time). And, of course, there's the better-late-than-never apology at the end. I guess that's what we get in lieu of an actual response email to our issue because, of course, you can't expect them to answer EVERYONE's email since, as so many kind and considerate individuals have pointed out, it's a free service. Which, I gather, means you should expect nothing from them. I've seen a lot of people suggest that paying for this feature would somehow guarantee a higher level of service/dependability but, seriously, we've all dealt with cable/phone/utility/etc companies. All it guarantees is more money in their pockets. I imagine these same helpful individuals are either Facebook employees themselves or the apathetic service reps you get at other companies. But, since it's free, we should be grateful to Facebook for providing this service out of the goodness of their hearts, right? What a joke. They make money from this service, otherwise there would be NO service. Whether or not we're actually handing them our money has little bearing on the matter-- If we go, their money goes with us because advertisers don't pay for ad time/space when no one is watching.

And to top it off, there's loads of people with nothing more important to say than "It's free" or "You're either a loser or stupid for complaining about this". My business isn't on FB (nor will it ever be after this) but I certainly utilize it to stay in contact with friends/family. Obviously it's not my sole contact with these people but having a social networking service like this makes it a great deal easier to have more frequent contact with them than I otherwise would have, working a full-time job, raising a kid, dealing with day-to-day hectic life.

So for all of you argumentative twits with nothing more helpful to say, take a lesson from Thumper and shut the hell up. As for Facebook-- Get talking or your users will talk elsewhere. Honestly, after this fiasco, I'm looking forward to the next networking site that everyone gravitates to.

I was one of the first to find this site and comment and now 7 days later I find myself coming here first and checking out the news before i even try to log into facebook and of-course get the same message... well same message just a different version, but i got to hand it to them they almost got a paragraph going on there.. but reading it is like watching the wizard of ozz, no matter how many times its re-made and re-shown it still ends the same.....

I hate to say this but i do not believe anything that hey have to say now.... they lost my trust a long time ago... If they want me to believe their story then they need to take the initiative to contact a news authority with a news statement describing the problem and what is being done and they need to make viable to EVERYONE, those that can log in and those that can not, and those who are just beginning to think about signing up.. I am tired of them hiding behind the scene... I don't even care how long it will take to fix it i just want to know what it is and what they are doing....

I would really love to see them be a bold enough to post something here on your site in response to all of this. Don't tell me that someone in their Chicago branch office has not seen this blog.. So come on FB come talk to us here... My son is in the military and some of my family live in Australia and this is how I keep up with them....I'm missing them!!!!! But thanks again for the B-day wishes they did make me feel better. Well, I'm into day five of my personal outage (although it's really day six, as the outage almost certainly happened simultaneously for everybody - we just didn't notice it until we next tried to log in).

As I guessed 24 hours ago, I still don't have access to my account some 48 hours after Facebook promised the problem would be resolved in half that time. I do have the shiny new error message, which frankly is a change Facebook should have made within 24 hours of the problem first occurring.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess my account won't be available tomorrow either. In fact, I don't believe it will be working when I try to log in on Monday. I fully expect it to be mid-week before it comes back, if in fact it ever does.

Facebook, I've lost all faith in your abilities.

After going through the hassle of creating a new profile and still not being able to access the original one (I always got the original error message, no special updates)... I SEEM to be back online with the original profile. Some people can see both of my profiles, others can only see the new one, so I am a little skeptical about whether this is the final fix. Kari - I can totally sympathize - the site went out for me the morning of my b-day (last Sunday)! Hopefully, you will have a b-day weekend filled with fun and FB posts from all of your friends!!

Well it is day six for me too! After reading the posts we not only have not being able to access FB in common but there is something else that links all of us. I remember reading a story about hackers being abel to go through the security program AVG. That is what I have and am curious if any on you do as well. Just a thought.

For clarification for Kzees, AVG is an Anti-Virus program, though it's expanded to other Anti's over the years, but primarily when someone say's AVG they are referring to the anti virus program.

And for Donna, yes, I do run AVG Free. Have for years.

OK, I signed up for this group from all the way over here in Seattle, and I too have been blocked since Saturday. Figures my I just joined 2 months ago, to help communicate with my daughter, who is at college. She text me at one point asking if I had deleted her as a friend.

A lot of people are talking about Farmtown, well I am now at level 255 in Mafia Wars, with a family of 770 members. Just about and hour ago one of my friends called to inform me that I no longer show up on their neighbors list.... up until now throughout this ordeal I was still listed and he told me that several times he went to the farm just to see if crops had died.. when he went to do it this morning he discovered i was gone....... Here's something new: When my daughter logged on using the iPhone app, she could still see parts of my profile including how many friends I have. Today, it shows that I have 0 friends!!! That was the final straw for me and I created a new profile with a different email address. I wasn't reading anymore or doing other things, just checking facebook every five minutes and playing farmville or farkle. And no, AVG is nothing to do with the problem. I don't run AVG here, nor is there any way your virus scanner could be causing this, folks. The problem is 100% on Facebook's end, not caused by anything their users have done. Most likely they have corrupted database(s) on their end, either caused by hardware or software failures - I'm thinking possibly related to the recently publicized anti-spam measures.

Frankly, I no longer believe their claim that no data will be lost. If that were the case, they'd have been able to restore from backups or revert their changes by now. The huge delay in fixing the problem strongly suggests to me that they will have at least some level of permanent data loss.

It has been now 8 days that I have had no access to my account! FB has not updated any new news about the problem since the middle of last week. They tell us that they are working on the problem and that there is no need to start a new account. well I suppose their fix has worked. judging from the number of post here and the original tread our comments are slowing down in numbers.

The original tread was gaining several post per hour the first half of last week and now has slowed to a few a day. There has only been a few less then 5 posters who have returned to say that their account has been restored. This leads me to believe that 1.) allot of the original posters are back up and are just to busy to come back here and report .... NOT!...... 2.)They have gone on and started a new account.

That is exactly what FB wants in my opinion. By telling us that there is no need to do so they planted that idea in all of our heads. Hoping we will just get involved in rebuilding and wahla their off the hook. The fact that they have NOT directly responded to any email that I or any others have sent and the fact that there is NO new news on the help page where "they" say we can stay informed about this issue since the middle of last week leads me to also believe that our numbers are not significant enough to make any kind of impact on their concern..

They are going on with business creating new aps, developing ways to determine how happy their user base is and of-course creating new languages for facebook Their hope is that we will do the same and just move on.. Our voices are not being heard. Major news sources are not picking up on this..... those that have take the side of facebook and do not demand for their readers any explanation they only report what we already know.. If you want to stay informed of the progress see their help page......... I truly believe that my site will never return.. If it ever does rest assured that i will report that here and then delete my account. If i am not going to use FB it will be on my terms and not theirs...................

Yes, it has been over a week. Maybe this is some experiement to see what would happen if Facebook was gone what would people do. It looks like we would just move on. It's nice to have a place to come to to actually get updates since Facebook doesnt care. And yes the posts here have slowed becuase many are probabaly just giving up on Facebook.

and I contacted the local news to see if they would add pressure. My approach to them is that while they may consider this service free, we do pay in non-monetary ways that increase FB's monetary value, and...they have created a communication system on which we now rely on, much like the TV/radio. If the TV/radio service were to go out for over a week, with no explanation, there would be an uproar.

No, I am not done with FB, and I certainly won't rely on them, or trust them in the same way again.

I followed their directions and sent a notice to Facebook after the error message lasted for a day or two. Well, it is now Oct 11th and I am loosing faith. When my girlfriend try's to visit my Facebook the page it wont open, when she try's to visit it from he iphone she can only see my info page, no wall page or Photo album. When she tries to send me a message from her iphone she gets a error message. I have known people to be down for 2 to 3 days with site maintenance, but have not heard of this issue lasting for a week or more.. Anyone else out there getting this message for a week or more?

One thing to keep in mind is that facebook is a free service to users. I'd also be disappointed if I lost my profile and contacts, but seriously in this day and age of technology, just how difficult would it be to recreate it all? I actually wrote a social media column for RedEye that prints in Monday's paper. Once it's up, I will link to it from this post so you can all take a look. It was inspired by this very event and actually by a comment from a particular poster who said that a Facebook support group is necessary.

I'll add in a thank you Scott! I've been following the other locked out users on multiple sites, but something about yours feels right to actually participate and comment. I'm also feeling like I'm getting more of a complete picture from the others here, than elsewhere.

I am currently watching my profile disappear on fb piece by piece. Both from logging in on my sons account to check, and from what friends are reporting back to me. Misery does love company, because it's nice to know I'm not the only one out here loosing something I invested time and heart in.

Thank you for this forum. I am in PA and after googling this FB error (I too have been locked out for 9 days) I have found this site to contain the most information anywhere! I am shocked that this story is not bigger news and really wonder how many people this is effecting. Everyone I have asked is not having a problem. Although the message says not to, I am likely going to create a new account. Right now, I still appear as a friend in my "friends" lists but they cannot access my profile. So it seems to still exist but not really. This is so frustrating...

I come here a few times a day now to see the comments and see if any progress has been made made.. then... I usually go frustrate myself by trying to log into my 'fakebook' account. I have realized I certainly was more attached to facebook than I thought, but I don't think it means I have no life - I think it's a new norm as a way to keep in touch and up to date on many friends/family.
I really don't understand why the national news won't pick this story up and pressure FB for an update on what's really happening.

Regarding the games, and I don't play that many but here is something odd I noticed about YoVille and Farmtown.

I'm logging in with my son's account and when I visit myself (no, I don't sound shcizophrenic at all!?!?) with his character, he gets no points or coins for interacting and my avatar tells him to "take things slow and come back tomorrow" as if he'd already visited today. In Farmtown, my carrots haven't gone to rot either. It's now been 10 days, they should have been toast at day 6.

I only noticed this a few days ago, but it appears as if my avatars are suspended in time. Not sure if that helps anyone put anymore pieces together. I am also starting to see references about accounts being hacked, both PC and Mobile phone users. Though the phone users are calling it a virus and there are some forums out there just like this one with mobile users still talking about this like we are to this date.

My account's been inaccessible since 3am on Sunday morning October 4th. That makes it almost 9 days now. Frusturated doesn't even begin to describe my situation. Finally, my Facebook is back online. Thing is, I actually never bothered to check it all day Monday - just plain forgot. I realised this evening that I'd passed the threshold of not really caring any more.

I get the feeling now it is back, I'm going to be using it rather less. As I've predicted for days, the earlier claims that no data was lost are false, and the lengthy groveling message once the service was back up in no way makes up for the complete lack of updates during the week-plus that it was down.

My Facebook status is going to reflect how disappointed with them for a while... ;-)

Hey guys, so I'm kinda getting worried now. My facebook account started having these issues yesterday and hasn't let me on since. I know it's only been a day for me so far but facebook is the primary means of communication for my classes and now I'm screwed if facebook doesn't fix this issue. How long did it take before all your guys' facebooks started working again? I don't know what to do :( All my friends and family can get on but I'm the only one that can't. Any help?

Had the site maintenance problem yesterday but got in last night, log in today and site maintenance again, wonder why my status update from 2 days ago is the last status feed then look at my friends list. All gone. 3 1/2 years of finding and adding friends who I have met during my life gone in an instant. NOT HAPPY FACEBOOK

Jess, it was like 8-9 days or so before my facebook came back. I had given up after after about a week and started a new account then like 2 days later it was working again. I didn't know people were having this problem again. Sorry you're going through this it was very very frustrating. I live half away across the country from my family and fb is the main way I stay in touch so trust me, I know how you feel.

Well their apology is very unsatisfying... i have no idea how soon my account is going to be made available. This is the third day my account has been unavailable. They issued what the site maintenance explanation the day before mine started to freak out. when reading this news i had assumed that the problem wouldn't reach anymore users. but on Oct.13,2009 my account started acting strange and then became unavailable. i had thought they had the problem controlled and were working on it but they don't if new people keep being affected by whatever it is that's going on. I think i want a more clear explanation of what is going on and how its getting fixed. how long must i wait? This is very upsetting.

Mine went down on Tuesday and no fix yet :( The bizarre thing is that my account is "available" usually until noon, and then I get frozen out for the rest of the day/night. I'm losing my mind with this, especially since they have a notification up that this has been "fixed". I'm unable to access on both my PC & Blackberry application.

SheriG12....funny you mention about your accout only being available only in the morning. I too am having the same issue. Fine until about lunch time, by the time I get home from work........nothing....Today is day 7 for me, Saturday. I assumed (you know what they say about assume) my account would be good in the morning, no such luck. Account has been down all day. I have reported several problem request to them only to receive canned emails that they hare performing site maintenance. Their "help" page says tht the problem has been resolved; this is very frustrating as FB is my primary means of communication with family living a great diatance away. I'm glad to hear that I am not the only one having the problem based on time of day....my poor husband has been having to listen to me grill him on what web sites he was on during the day that may be causing my problem.

Has anyone heard anything about them rectifying this problem for people who are either still having the problem or started having after they supposedely resolved it. Sorry to hear you are still having problems Firechick747. I don't know if it hurried the process, but it sure made me feel better to fax and harass. If they won't respond then they can hear my message over and over again. I emailed tech support with a screen shot everyday, and I also faxed them repeatedly. I'm told the phone is no end of frustration, so I'd avoid that.

I did get in the next time I tried but it said my contact email was missing? I didn't want to update on the home page so I tried in the account settings area and it said there was an error so I left it alone.. I'm really not sure what to think O_o

I read trying to clear your your brower cache cookies and history can help but nothing helps...sigh

My husband's account was one of the 150,000 affected in the last outage. Once his account became available, it was hijacked, and his friends were contacted with the bogus "I'm in London I need money scam". He contacted fb and now his account has been suspended until fb can sort it out. Now, yesterday, my account started getting the site maintenance message and I still can't get on this morning. I will be changing my password as soon as I can log on, so my account isn't hijacked either.

They said the users should have full access again by October 14th, but I am still only able to login about once every fifteen times I keyed in my password. thanks scott for creating this thread,. it give me hope when I know many people had this too and some can fixed from that problem,. according to all I had read in this threads and many more,. its about 3-7 hours they get stuck from this trouble, even some there reach 3 weeks get frustrated. but it's true I got just ''2 HOURS FIXED'',. thanks god I was scare back then,. in that time, I really do nothing just wait and not open my fb while read this thread. i don't know why it can happen but I felt that God blessed me. very lucky.
I just have 207 friends and about 600 photos and just play happy aquarium,. I think it's a bit activities,. I start thinking is that how much the file that you have influential to the speed of fixing progress?? I just guess
