William E. Doukas of Oak Park wrote a letter about bad customer service to CTA President Rich Rodriguez and sent "Going Public" a copy. His letter continues after the jump.
"I am addressing this letter of complaint to you personally since I have been impressed with your leadership of the CTA.
On Wednesday, Oct. 14, I boarded the Green Line 'L' at the LaSalle/Lake Street station heading to Oak Park in the latter afternoon (3:30-4 p.m.). I was sitting in the first car.
There was a group of young 'ladies' (high school students) who were talking in a very loud and animated voice. The motorman actually opened his door and looked at them but then closed his door without engaging them in conversation. ...

CTA rider: Worker didn't stop loud behavior
As the 'L' proceeded westward, the conversation between the girls became louder and louder and louder. The conversation was laced with profanity and sex talk. Every time one of them used the 'F' word, they would all shriek hysterically.
Finally, a passenger lady buzzed the trainman, who answered her call through the intercom, and asked what she wanted.
She voiced her complaint about the language and loudness of the girls. The motorman did nothing but continue to operate the train. The girls eventually departed the 'L' at the Central stop. And peace and quiet returned to the car.
Mr. Rodriguez, I found the non-responsiveness of your employee to be appalling!
The next time that I encounter loud and offensive behavior on the 'L,' I shall not waste my time with the CTA employee. I shall call 911 and let the police deal with the problem. I am sure that there is some sort of city violation that is applicable."

Two things:
1. This guy is impressed with Rodriguez's leadership? Huh?
2. He would call 911 because some high school girls were being obnoxious on the train?
Get over yourself. The very idea that you would waste the police's time with this is ludicrous. We have kids getting beaten to death in this city and you want to call 911 because some girls are using the "f" word? Embarrassing, truly embarrassing.

Was the person who wrote this high? In America we have freedom of speech. Also, if you did not like it. You could transfer to another car on the train. Would you like it if someone called the police because you had a green shirt or something as ridiculous as that. I am appalled by your unrealistic approach to life.

As a member of the emergency services, I would be mad as all heck if someone called me because some girls were talking dirty and loud. We have more important things to do that do not involve getting people to quiet down. You had the option to move to another car, and you didn't- get over it- or buy a car and use that. Don't waste the time of the police. They have better things to do- like surviving a day at work and keeping people from killing others. Get over yourself.

You all are nuts!! It's called 'disturbing the peace'...look it up! Why should he or I or anyone else have to change our seats and cars and all that because some brats were not taught by their nasty parents how to behave in public? Not to mention the trouble they will get into on their own without meaning to...anyone read the news lately?? They need to shut the hell up!

No this didn't require 911, but did require the assistance/intervention of the CTA train operator. He has the authority to have them be quiet or get off. Granted he probably didn't want to be the "Hall Monitor" but as an official of the CTA he has the authority to kick them off... The reason they do what they do, is because no one stands up for the other users of the CTA. If I tried Id get arrested, all he had to do is stop the train and inform them if they do not respect others then they're off at the next platform.
And why do we hate riding on the CTA? ... their own employees don't care.

No one is saying they weren't disturbing the peace, but quite honestly, deal with it or move. For god's sake, don't call 911. True, you shouldn't have to move, but suck it up, be the bigger person, and do it. People who operate on principle alone are stubborn jerk offs.

Just ask them to be quiet yourself. Everyone wants other people to handle their problems. Take some personal responsibility for crying out loud.

I agree. I work for the CTA and WE DO NOT have the authority to put people off the buses and trains. Only a supervisor or the police can do so. Some operators do it, and some don't.
Open up YOUR mouth next time! Use personal responsibility!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
