"The Ferris" Update: Itineraries, Info and other "I" words
Hey everyone!
I just wanted to check back in with you and give you some updates on "The Ferris Project" (if you missed it, check here)
I have to first thank everyone for the outpouring of support for this. I wanted to do a fun project involving social media, and it snowballed pretty quickly!
Here's a few notes of what we're planning/what to expect:
Taking logistics into concern, we're going to be traveling light. The main crew consists of myself and my friend/Cameron/cameraman Hank.
If you like social media engagement-and you should-The Ferris (as it will be referred to from here on) is chock-full of it. We're setting up mini-Tweetups, or "Save Ferris stations" throughout the day where you can meet Hank and I for pics and general shenanigans.
The Itinerary for the day is as follows. I encourage you to come meet us at one of the public locations, preferably the dance-off or the parade.
Only one question remains, "Do you have a kiss for daddy?"
- 9:30 a.m: We depart from the front of the theater building at Glenbrook North (the scene where Sloane gets picked up, located at 2300 Shermer Rd. Northbrook, Illinois)
- 10:30 a.m: The Sears (Willis who?) Tower Skydeck.
- 11:00 a.m: The Art Institute of Chicago.
- Noon: Lunch at Giordano's (30 N Rush St, Chicago, IL). Apparently "Chez Quis" isn't accepting reservations, even for The Sausage King of Chicago.
- 1:05 p.m: Cubs-Reds game at Wrigley.
- 2:00 p.m: The Von Steuben Day Parade (Lincoln & Leland Ave)
- 3:00 p.m: The "Save Ferris Charity Dance-off for Charity". This is going to be a little treat for you guys. We're going to set up somewhere, flash mob-style, and have ourselves a little 80's dance party. I'll be tweeting out the secret location, and yes, "Twist and Shout" will be played.
- 6:00 p.m: (If we do this right) Drive by Cameron's house in Highland Park
Only one question remains, "Do you have a kiss for daddy?"

That is an aggressive itinerary!

This itinerary has left out the fact that Ferris, Cameron and Sloane are at the Merchandise Mart (checking out brokers/people selling and buying stock) at one point in the film.

Good catch! We've already thought about that, and are taking steps to make up for it.

Chicago Mercantile Exchange - not Merchandise Mart. Very, very different places. =) Although, the trading floor that Ferris visited no longer exists. And, of course, wouldn't be open on a Saturday anyway.

Isn't it sort of cheating that the parade won't be held on Dearborn in the Loop? I mean, Ravenswood is a lot closer to Highland Park. Still kudos to your endeavors. Hopefully there is a foul ball in it for ya.

Not to mention that the whole point of the movie was a day off from the school week. Doing it on a Saturday is cheating. But, hey, good luck getting from Northbrook to downtown in an hour on a Saturday morning. You've never taken the Edens, have you.

Are you kidding? From Northbrook on a Saturday? He'll be able to make it downtown and back in an hour on a Saturday.

Ok, just know your limits.
Re-enacting Ferris Bueller is one thing, but don't get any ideas about a Chicago Fire re-enactment.

I assume you're going to be taking a cab to all of these places in the city since they parked their car in a garage on Washington (or was it Madison?)

Good luck. This should be interesting even if you don't make it...

Sorry for the multiple comments. Don't know what happened there.

So you're wishing them good luck, then?

In all seriousness, I have NO idea what happened.

Will you be Tweeting the location from your account or RedEye's?
ErnestWilkins said:
I'll be tweeting from both @ernestwilkins and @redeyenow. Follow both!

Why not go to a fancy restaurant on par with Chez Quis? Giordano's just seems easy.
How are you getting from place to place?
Do you have tickets to the Cubs game? Are people who tag along expected to have their own tickets or wait outside otherwise?
Can we follow along on ChicagoNow or will it only be updated after the day is over?

1: Have you been to Giordano's? Delicious, and fancy (read: expensive) enough for my blood.
2: By any means necessary.
3: We're attempting to lock down some bar space/ a table for people to wait if they don't have cubs tix.
4: We'll be live-tweeting from @redeyenow and my personal account. I'm not going to be live-blogging it.

What about going to the beach (after Cameron freaks out)? Swimming in the pool?

You and all you people are irresponsible, insipid, poltroons. I hope you have a permit from the Highland Park Police and I do hope you have permission from the owners of the property. It will be funny to see you all go to jail and the HPPD rain on your silliness. I guess the future of America is one of total lack of responsibility. I hope Mr. Wilkins goes to jail and is sued for what little he has. Maybe he can go on Twatter and Queef about being homeless!
