***Update: The CTA said today it is removing two of the three Tucker Max ads on the CTA buses. CTA spokeswoman Noelle Gaffney said the CTA outsources the sale of ads and has a company notify them if the ads don't meet guidelines set by the transit board. Gaffney said the CTA wasn't notified that the ads didn't meet the guidelines.
"We wouldn't have approved them based on the guidelines," Gaffney said.
The CTA is removing the ads from 250 buses, Gaffney said.
Leah Pine wrote to "Going Public" about an ad for "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell," a Tucker Max movie. Pine said she saw the ad on the side of a No. 29 State bus Wednesday. Where have you spotted the ads? "Going Public" has contacted the CTA about the ads. Will update with more information.
Here is Eric Zorn's take and the Chicago Reader's take.
"I was appalled today at an ad on the side of a CTA bus: 'Strippers will not tolerate disrespect...HAHA, just kidding!' The ad is for the new Tucker Max movie, a film that glorifies the mistreatment and sexual exploitation of women.
I am outraged that this foul message is being endorsed and publicized by my city. It is not funny -- it is abusive, and it must be removed from the buses. CTA authorities should be ashamed."

As Tucker Max would say if you can't take a joke than f*** you. It's an advertisement get over. Aren't you just further publicizing this movie by writing about it? Isn't that exactly what this movie was trying to accomplish when putting these ads out? They knew it would stir up controversy and then people would talk about the movie spreading interest so more people would go see it and talk about how offensive it is. So congratulations on falling right into the Tucker Max marketing scheme. Oh and I find these advertisements hilarious for the simple reason that they are working exactly like they are supposed to.

Right ... the joke is on us, CTA, etc. A publicist can't even PAY for free word of mouth advertising. I didn't read or buy the book, won't see the movie but if some people are trying to figure out what the buzz is about, they will do it. The ads are ignorable, something different from the 'I'm loving it' and 'Divorce' ads, and help keep the CTA running without raising fares. CTA's ad content criteria needs a revision to avoid free advertising, offending people, and taking away time from CTA when they could focus on Red Line Slow Zones.

OOH I was talking about this on Twitter this week! I agree with Leah completely.
Bravo to the CTA for removing the ads! Buses are just not the right place for this type of tasteless, disgusting advertisement. Tucker Max should stay viral, where he belongs.

Seriously? Has society sunken that low? Do I have to ask, probably not.

Pathologically low self-esteem, mostly.

There has been a lot of controversy throughout the entire IHTSBIH premiere tour starting with the protesters which popped up within the first thirty days of the start. I have been reading Tucker Max for some time now and I believe that the biggest issue that people have with this movie is that they have never experience the new genre of "fratire" which Tucker has created. People are quick to judge a person they know nothing about.
Where should I begin to educate people about the author Tucker Max? I think I have to go with the Speech he gave at Ohio State in May. Not only does this speech show you the kind of character that Tucker brings to the table, but it highlights some of his achievements that our society has entitled him. His book was on the New York Times Best Seller List for over two years and was said to be "the only book every college student has read" by The Washington Post. Being a college student myself I know that if we had required reading that was anywhere near as interesting as Tucker's book we would all be getting a lot better grades from our professors.
To go along with his book being on the New York Times Best Seller List, Tucker was nominated for a very prestigious position in 2009. The position is one of the spaces on Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People of 2009. He has obviously touched a lot of people with his writings.
The thing that gets me the most is people who will judge a person who has made his living sharing his stories with the world, even though they aren't all good. Tucker shows that even though you may have had a lot of issues in your life you can still find your niche and do something you love. Tucker has done things that other people have yet to think of, or even dreamed of doing. You can read and learn more about Tucker at the following URL.(http://www.tuckermax.com/blog.phtml) The entire Ohio State speech is under the heading "The Celebrity Tipping Point - May 15, 2009".
I reluctantly couldn't get my hand on a ticket to Tuckers showing on the 20th in my town, so I will have to wait until the 25th. But believe me, I will be there in my "What would Tucker do?" t-shirt ready to enjoy a truly hilarious film. The only thing that me and the other "Pathologically low self-esteem" Tucker fans are waiting for is the release of his new book "Assholes Finish First", and "IHTSBIH" to come out on DVD. As for you Tucker, I hope the rest of the tour goes just as smooth as the first portion of the tour.

I haven't seen 1 in a while, but I was always weirded out by the buses where the entire inside is nothing but ads for divorce.

I'm not even a fan of Tucker Max, but unlike the majority of loudmouth idiots demanding these ads be taken down, I'm able to keep my personal preferences separate from my core beliefs. In this case: freedom of speech and artistic expression.
Let the man run the ads he wants. I'd rather deal with someone challenging my sense of decency than see one more goddamn "i'm lovin' it!" ad. Wouldn't you?
Guinn said:
@Amused: I concur. Having slaved away at an ad agency for years, I can't tell you how many times we're asked to do something simultaneously edgy and profanity-free. It's like being handed an artistic license, but with NON-DRIVER is stamped across it.
Remember when those Aqua Teen ads caused a TERRORISM SCARE? This to me--in principal at least--is just as absurd.

I'm most amused by the fact this guy managed to land a movie deal.
His stories, while humorous, are all fake. Try to find just one person in Chicago who has seen this guy in action, or is aware of him -- beyond his internet persona. They don't exist.
Promoters, club/bar owners, etc. Nobody knows him.

I hope the Tucker Max movie doesnt diminish the legend that is Tucker Max. And i you're not a fan, then you cant relate because you've led a boring life.

@ Tony, I live in Chicago and I am in a couple of Tuckers stories. I can tell you that the ones I am in are true, I was there. I know you have no reason to believe me. I have to say I was shocked watching it play out live. :-) Tucker is a good friend of mine and one that is and has been there for me. I have went to the movie over the weekend and it is fantastic. I wish him the best. People accuse Tucker of being judgemental but isn't that what so many are doing to him?

Honestly, as long as my CTA pass cost doesn't increase, I'm all for them putting ads up everywhere of just about any kind. My only issue with this initially was my perceived hypocrisy of them running these in general after pulling ads for Grand Theft Auto 4 previously when they obviously were not questionable in the slightest themselves. Their quick removal makes it at least seem like they truly had no specific involvement in their placement.

This stuff is getting pretty stupid.
I am a fan of Tucker Max, and I've already seen the movie, and it does much more to make fun of his lifestyle in some aspects. All around excellent movie.
Anyways, the people that idolize him are in the wrong, in my opinion("TUCKER IS A GOD!"). I don't idolize him, but he's a really good writer, and he gets into hilariously ridiculous situations. I don't condone sleeping around as much as he does, drinking as heavily as he has in the past, making fun of people to the degree he does, etc., but it's still hilarious to read about because he writes it well, and he's worth respecting for that.
He does not perpetrate a rape culture. All of those females want to have sex with him. Consent is NOT rape.
