That's so scary, especially considering that I took the train to State and Lake every day. Damn. Just haunting.

For real, the Potbelly's on State and Lake is my third favorite one and that stop was the end of my morning commute.

It's really scary. I would say I walk there at least 3 or 4 times a week on my way home.

Did the bad guy have a gun? The story doesn't say that he did, so did a cop shoot another cop and a bystander?

'bad guy'? can we be less childlike in our reductive word choice?
how is lethal force apropriate when a purse was stolen? a life versus some credit cards, a phone and whatever junk ladies carry?
and fernandodiaz, your 3rd fave potbellys? its a friggin fast food chain, they're all the same.

redeyeisdeclineofjournalism if you're interested in a cop's point of view check this out.
As for PB's, that location has the third best musicians and the wonderful people there put a little too much everything in my sandwiches.

What a clever name you've fashioned for yourself there. That's OK, at least you're reading and commenting. That's our goal here, and you've helped us. Thank you. A little more money in our pocket can't hurt.

I'm told that the alleged perp broke the number one rule of
the streets of chicago:
Don't bring a knife to a gun fight.

wow, really? you people are from Chicago? embarrassing.
a) fernando--who cares about potbelly's, seriously? can you remain on topic for 1 sentence, damn.
b)david--read the story, it's in there. the cop had about as good of aim as any citizen shooting for the first time does--disgraceful, are these cops even trained? what a pathetic joke, and 4 shots? just plain shameful; he even shot another officer, what bumbling idiots.
c)these panhandlers have been a nuisance in the loop for ages and I have never seen the police do anything to deter their intimidating behavior. personally, I suggest "standing up" to them(define that how you want, but to me it means becoming indignant in any way that would deter harassing behavior), and letting them know these shenanigans are through with, forever...
--Citizens take back the city, because no one else is going to do it for you. You all realize the current population of of the city looks like a bunch of wimpy, helpless fools, don't you? DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT ALREADY.

I am flabbergasted toward what happend. Especially because my school is near by state street. One thing that I have notice is that more people are arriving homeless by state street. More security should be involved especially because commercial business are by state street.
