CTA survey: Yay or nay?

user-pic
Today I took the CTA customer service survey on transitchicago.com.

After the getting-to-know-you questions, the CTA asks: Why do you ride the CTA?

Some of the response choices are weighed more toward the favorable:
>> Travel time faster on CTA than by car
>> Pace price is lower
>> Prefer CTA over Metra

I clicked on "Don't want to pay for parking." There was no: "I have no other choice" choice.
Next question asks how often you ride the CTA. But the question after that is the money question.

"On a scale of 1 - 10 where 1 is 'much worse' and 10 is 'much better', would you say service on your primary routes (the ones you take most often) has gotten better or worse?"

I put it at a 5 to keep things neutral and to move me along to the next question. But it may be difficult for some riders to give a numerical score to their service.

"Next, we would like to know how you may or may not describe conditions on your CTA Bus(es) and Bus Stops. As you read the list of statements, please let us know whether you agree completely, agree somewhat, disagree somewhat or disagree completely with each one."

There are 16 statements for riders to rate. A sample:
>> CTA bus stop protects me from the weather
>> CTA bus seats are in good condition and comfortable
>> CTA bus stop is comfortable when waiting

The following question is the one that will probably will make some riders wish they could attach a novel.

The CTA asks: "Please select up to 3 items you would recommend for the CTA to fix or improve for their buses and bus stops."

There are 17 options to choose from. Here are a few:
>> Improve CTA bus seats so they are in good condition and comfortable
>> Improve CTA buses for a smooth ride and ensure the buses run well
>> Improve the CTA buses so they break down less often
I don't know if anyone would check the "none of these" option.

The rail questions are the same, except "rail" and "station" are substituted for "bus" and "stop."

Then the CTA gets away from customer service and starts to ask funding questions.

"Would you support a larger portion of your gas tax dollars (not an increase in your gas tax dollars) being shifted to help pay for maintenance costs of transit systems?"

Your choices are "yes", "no" and "not sure."

"Assuming the current spending of gas tax dollars in Chicago is 80% for highways and 20% for the CTA, what split should be used instead?"

Respondents are asked to manually fill in the split.

Do you think the current Administration and Congress should set up a special fund as part of the federal budget to bring public transportation networks up to a state of good repair to improve on-time performance and reliability?

Yes or no?

Respondents than can share additional comments with the CTA and give their e-mail address if they want to be kept in the loop.

Survey took about 10 minutes. It will be available to complete through July 10. Will you take this survey? How did you answer?
