A hibiscus-ginger-cardamom mojito from Nacional 27 (Elizabeth Myers/RedEye)

I've got a confession: I've never tasted a mojito. I love mint flavor in my ice cream with some chocolate chips but whatever you do, keep it out of my cocktail glass! So I guess that makes me not so trendy--and that's the subject of RedEye's cover story today. Summer drink trend predictions are out, and they run the gamut from fruity concoctions with fresh produce to (gasp!) beer cocktails.

I should say I'm not a total summer drinks party pooper. For me, when the heat is on, it's time to switch from a heartier beer to something like a Blue Moon with a twist of orange. If I'm feeling really adventurous, maybe I'll try a whiskey sour.

So how do this year's forecasts strike you? Do you try the new trendy drinks? What (and where) are you going to be drinking in Chicago this summer?

Mmm. All this talk about summer cocktails is making me thirsty!

That mojito picture is making me thirsty and it's only 9 am.

My two favorite summertime cocktails are the mint julep, and a drink called a "Suffering Bastard" that's a mix of bourbon, gin, lime juice, bitters and ginger ale.

I remember when RedEye published the deep dish pizza story a few months ago, I ordered deep dish for lunch the next day. I wonder how many folks will see all of the refreshing-looking drinks in today's paper and rush out to order something similar. I know I'm thinking about it ...
