Here it is guys, my mass text to the world that promises to keep you pretty for less. Does anyone remember my post a while back about Moroccan Oil called, "A new obsession.... get up and go get this right freakin now!" (read that here http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/pretty-cheap/2009/12/a-new-obsession-get-up-and-go-get-this-right-freakin-now.html) Well I am not perfect and I kind of forgot to tell you where to get Moroccan Oil here in Chicago. Ooops! Don't worry it works to your benefit because I have found Moroccan Oil and other products for a very good price at Barry Drugs! Barry Drugs is a small drug store that sits right next to the mega store Walgreens at 1370 N. Milwaukee, Chicago, Il. 60622. I first noticed Barry Drugs on my way home from the salon and I peeked in. They have my Moroccan Oil and many of other high priced goodies for.... LESS! I checked the products and they are indeed real and not grey market trash so buy up! You wont save a ton but expect to pay 4-6 dollars less and over time that is a lot of money. My top pics are the whole Moroccan Oil line and the "It's a 10" hair line. "It's a 10" is mega moisture and is good for those bleach sisters or for anyone feeling the effects of the heat sucking the moisture out of your hair. You could get anything from either line and want to find me and kiss me, just sayin. They also had some men's gift backs, they looked legit so pick one up for your stud for V day.
If you like boring Hair, Make up and Music do not read this blog.
If you like to have fun. If you like to listen to outstanding music. If you like beautiful, eye catching makeup and fashion then this particular blog is for you! Well, you also get the added bonus of being one of the first to know about something so you can seem cool to your friends for a second or two.
On Saturday night I asked a friend of mine what he was up to. He told me of his plans and told me that I should check out the show for a woman that goes by Ebony Bones. He figured that I would be into it which is a good sign because at this point I am a hard nut to crack when it comes to music and shows. I knew that it must be outlandish, Perfect!
Product Review. The difference between plain hair, and hair styled with a couple products is nothing short of monumental.
If you ever needed proof that you do not want to be my friend here it is! I put my friend and fellow blondie Samantha to work. Here she is in her first ever product review!

Kelli Zink. From hair crush to hair love in a matter products.
OK guys I am not going to lie here, I do this thing that I like to call my "hair crush." My hair crushes are people with fab hair that I personally would kill to have. I share my crushes with you every week so that you can get new ideas for yourself and so you can also stay on trend with hair and make up etc. That being said, I think I just went from having a "hair crush" to full blown "hair love!" Kelli Zink has stolen my heart so much so that you just might see me standing outside of www.celebtv.com with a boom box, even in this cold weather.
Grammy 2010 looks. Just leave it to Gaga.
If the music industry was the circus, then Lady Gaga is the ring leader. The rest of them are like the dancers trying out for the show. Last night was the 2010 Grammy awards. I started off by watching the pre show while I was in the salon closing up for the night. All hands on deck! "Is that Gaga? I mean, where is Gaga?" Lets be honest she is the reason for watching the show. As I watch the cameras pan on her as she arrives I mutter, "Yellow. Get it girl!" (That means that I love the yellow hair extensions in my own special language.) I kept watching the pre show and most of the show until I had to head to my own band practice. I can't help but think on the car ride to band practice, "What would I wear if I was going to be on the Grammy's?" Well, let me tell you..... I AM NOT WEARING THAT!!! This is my review of the 2010 Grammy looks.
Ok, let me break this down. If you are not Gaga then do not try to give the world a space look. It does not work! A dash of space might be ok but seriously being a tourist of looking avant-garde makes you look like you are trying to hard. Gaga lives there, let her have it and you just stick to what you know.
Look hot before, during and after the gym. This is what you need to pack.
I was reading a post on the blog Chicago Fit Club right here on www.chicagonow.com and I got inspired! Lets get your gym bag kickin' with the right cosmetics and products to save space and money.
1. Face wipes are key to whisk away grim and time on that treadmill. On the same tip you can also get some gentle baby wipes to use on parts of your body that will remain nameless.
2. Pack face lotion with a sunscreen and any other makeup that you might wear but, do it the Pretty Cheap way! Take all of the products that only have a few uses left and pack them in a freezer sized Ziploc bag. All of these products are about to get thrown away. If you use them you are saving money! If you have two of something use the other one for you gym bag.
Why the Ziploc bag? If you have ever had makeup or lotion spill in a bag during travel, gym bag or purse... you are picking up what I am throwing down. Now times that by a billion if it is glitter. Ha!
The Rodeo Drive of Make up found right here in Chicago. Now all we need is the sun!
Even if you do not live in Chicago this blog is still for you because we might talk about some brands that you might not have heard of before. In other words keep reading friends no matter where in the world you are!
So, we have a been given a gift right here in Chicago that I like to call, the "Rodeo Drive of makeup." Everyone knows that Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California is known for the best of the best in fashion. I mean ok, lets be honest that kind of thinking is outdated but let me make a point here kay. Well, right here in Chicago we have the biggest and brightest names in cosmetics on Armitage Ave. in Lincoln Park. Take a walk me as I show you my fave drugs of choice on this street.
Come on baby light my eyeliner
Well, remember when your parents told you not to play with fire? Guess what? I am tell you it is ok to play with fire. Only when it comes to heating up some of your beauty products of course. Here is the scoop, if you want to save money on products use less by letting heat help you spread and be able to use the product more effectively.
I must confess the other night I was watching the Wendy Williams Show to catch J-Lo's number one makeup artist Scott Barnes talk about his new book About Face. Usually when I hear the experts talk about makeup I am thinking the entire time that they are directing their tips at a 3rd grader. Much to my dismay... Scott Barnes actually gave me a tip that I did not know and actually used. His tip was to use a lighter to warm up eyeliner so that it spreads a little easier. I normally do not have a prob with eyeliner but I did have this one MAC eyeliner that did not want to work. Love the color hate the way it goes on. I did just what Scott said and blammo! It works! Roll the eyeliner and only use the fire for a second or two. I was testing it on the top of my hand before it touched my face. Do not forget that the eye area is sensitive so it will burn easily.
Ew gross.
Ew! Ok time for some real talk. You know because it is cold outside here in Chicago (and most of the US Burrrr!) you have more time inside. Right now I am going to try and clean you up and get you into some very good habits while you are still stuck inside.
1. Wash you bedding, Especially your pillow cases. All types of hair oil, lotions and gross things collect onto your bedding. I like to use one of the new sensitive skin detergents found at most grocery stores and no dryer sheet. Why? Um I don't want some perfumed detergent making my skin go nuts while I sleep!
2. Wash your makeup brushes! I know that you have heard this before but, maybe all of the "crazy makeup people" didn't make ourselves clear.... WASH YOUR BRUSHES ONCE A WEEK!!! If you are in a bind your can use a gentle shampoo or you can get fancy with a nice brush cleaner. MAC has an amazing brush cleaner. Sephora makes a spray and wipes for all of you lazy divas out there. If you have crap brushes expect them to burst on impact of water. You might freak out a little but keep on cleaning.
My favorite thing is to clean the brushes and watch all of the gross stuff go down the drain. I always used needing my brushes "dry and ready to use" as an excuse for never washing them so I came up with a trick to trick myself!
Wash brushes just after you need them in the morning. Lightly squeeze them dry and roll them on a towel or paper towel and get them as dry as you can. Grab a short coffee or tea cup an set them in front of the fan that is collecting dust waiting for warmer days. If you don't have a fan blast them for a few mins with a blow dryer. Don't get the fan or blow dryer to close. Keep the brushes in the cup with the brush part up until you need the brushes again.
