Governor George Ryan clears death row - Jan. 10, 2003
After several high-profile cases led to the exoneration of men on death row for crimes they didn't commmit, Governor George Ryan pardoned four men and commuted the sentences of 164 others to life in prison. In 2000, Ryan had declared a moratorium on executions. (Chicago Tribune Photo)
